Just wondering if anyone knew which bases people are getting out of training at Piedmont?

Also how long do you have to be on reserve before being able to hold a line at various bases?

Thanks

I'm fairly certain the latest bid showed SICs going into every base.

How long reserve? No idea. My base this month had 30 lines available for bid, 34 FOs, only two of which have an entire reserve line. Could be really, really quick- or not.

Pretty much any base you want, if not right off the start. As far as reserve, some have gotten build-ups from the start, while other bases hold no hope at all.

Rumor has it that Chickentown will be reducing lines in MDT, starting next month.

So, who knows?

I knew this gig was too good to be true. Driving to work, decent build ups and working airplanes.

Probably gonna see a lot of RRPs in my schedule next month.

i haven't heard anything about mdt loosing lines, why would they, they're the largest base, and the second is ROA. i guess we will find out either today or no later than tomorrow at 5pm when the aug lines come out. where did you (ceo of the couch) hear about the mdt lines reducing?

MDT crew room musings. I hope it's not true.

It took me 7 months to get off reserve at PDT, but that's because I changed bases. It might be shorter or longer than that depending on the base. Some guys in my class got lines a few months before me. Some guys are still on reserve.

We're still short on pilots, so if you're on reserve, I can't imagine you'd do much sitting.

Working airplanes? I cant be the only one noticing these things, but it seems the condition of the fleet has been sliding down here lately (as if that was really possible). The planes seem to have more MEL's and seem to be having problems more than usual these past few weeks. Stopped by LGA the other day for a (suprise suprise) unsked'd swap and counted 4 broken airplanes on the ramp. Huh?

We had to ferry to MDT a few days ago for an AC gen, and while waiting had the chance to talk to the mechanics. They didnt have much good to say about the MX going on at PDT these days. Losing people, farming out of more and more work, mechanics getting the shaft, and the list goes on. You shoulda heard the mechanics talk about the condition of the wiring in the airplanes. Better dust off those smoke goggles. Anyone else notice the downhill slide in MX these past few weeks?

I recently spoke to Ann Marie the new HR replacing Mrs Parker yesterday 7/5/06, she told me that I didn't meet the mins for Piedmont at 1500/500 I currently have 1300/128 any comments? Their mins seem awful high. She told to keep updating my resume until I had them. If I had that high of time why would i go to Piedmont;)

Good question. I only had 1300 MULTI when I started training. I agree- you might want to work elsewhere.

Johnny, no KIDDING!! I've seen two failures that had a single-digit seniority captain scratching his head- crummy day. "Never saw THAT before..." I think SSO tightened the purse strings, since that's where they have to go through for parts. SO, we have to gut one. Nice!

Your current times are higher than all the Purdue/UND grads hired there in the last two years, including the class currently on IOE. FWIW

A rumor it was. MDT FO lines are +2 from last month, with 40 fo's in base now :D! As for mx, I haven't had a working apu in the last three days of flying!

It's only a matter of time before a brain-dead slackjawed redneck wanders into #2, cuz he wants a closer look at them props. No way that thang goes faster'n a NASCAR! Sheyoot- that th thudthudthud. No APUs is getting really old. How's about AHRS on the fritz? Seen any weird ECU related failures? And the whiz-bang prize winner: AHRS and SAHS both decide to quit. YD doing the left-right-left OFF- then getting the news during a swap without a writeup, of course. Antiskid inop, rain expected, #1 fuel schedule is dancing... Freakin' right AC bus takes a duke in cruise...

Something tells me these planes are gonna start "breaking" ;) a loooooot more if they don't start fixing this stuff.

Heard a mechanic say that it took BXXlls of steel to ferry an airplane to a maintinance base. And now scheduling hates me for refusing to ferry it!!

PDT wont do anything major until one falls out of the sky. Then maybe theyll think about it. Brittle wiring, brittle wiring, brittle wiring, and thats in the newer -200's! No need to replace it all, just patch a little section here and there. Lemme make sure those smoke goggles actually fit this time. Just the wiring stories alone I overheard gave me pause.

And whats this rumor about AWAC getting Q400's? Overheard a crew talking about it in philly. Oh man, I cant imagine what'd happen. Parking brakes would be set all over the PDT system if that happened. Lot of planes would start breaking in the outstations real fast. Its that dang nav select carrot, just keeps going out.

Thats good cause they are soooooooooooo LOUD.

I've had one APU inop in the last month, and maybe one inop ECU. Normally, everything is fixed when we're taking it out in the morning.
As far as AWAC and 400s, yea, I've heard that one too. I think the bottom 30% of PDT would quit in a week.

Yup- all the spare lamps are broken or missing. Yup, the entire row is gone, so we can't trade any. Yup, I'm sure. What are the odds that all three lamps in the alternate gear lights blew out, too! Oh, I forgot to tell you- the AED is without a battery. No O2 in the PBEs! WOW!

Why wait? I believe in keeping a nice legal and safe operation. No time like the present to make sure you do your job EXTRA well.

Besides, I will not hang my beans out there for a company that may not back me up if push comes to shove. Legal? we go. Not legal, the brake stays set.

there's no way awac is getting dash's. why would they it woulnd't make sense..

1.for all purposes awac is one of the few contract carries that is a decent place to work for, hence pay scale wont be all that low that would be enough to offset #2
2.training cost incurred for both ca's, as well as Fo's. (pdt is already a dash operator) type is the same,
3. i'm guessing there is no way anyone will ever know until it is released to the public, because of public disclosure laws, ***if i found out xyz airline is purchasing or leasing 50 airplanes, i would probably go ahead and purchase a little stock from that manufacturer.
4.awac has no maint experience with dhc-8
5.scheduling awac would be a tougher issue with the dhc-8 than it would for pdt to have the q400 arrive becuase of same type, scheduling one airplane.

in all realty i think the awac q400 talk or rumor is jut flaimbaiting and dosn't have any real merit, i mean come on people, dont believe everything, just give it ia few minutes of thought before passing on stuff...
what are all your thoughts???

My thoughts are that it is entirely possible. Why not get a boat load of 400s and a pilot group ready to fly them, put up some fences and run with it?
Most SJS stricken youth are still going to pick CRJs over Dashes.

if someoneelse got 400's there would be a friggen uproar bigger than we can even imagine. the sick-outs/sick calls the huge number of no goes because apu bleed air isn't cold enough, the number of peeps that keep the tourqe at 50% enroute wouldbe huge also. it would signal there is no need to keep pdt around if there was another dash operator thats the real problem, no the fact that it is a bigger or faster aircraft, but the job security it would take away!!!!!

My thoughts are you should give that one another try, maybe give it a few minutes of thought before passing it on....just pokin ya a little.

I didnt say I believed it when the wisky guys were talking about it, just overheard them, and thought id pass it on. Thats what this board is for, passing on rumors in our industry. But you are right, I dont think it would make much sense for them to get 400's, but then again I apparently never end up seeing the "big" picture that scheduling, management, MX, etc, has for us.

I just ferried one yesterday, BTV to SBY with the gear down...talk about a long ass flight...

I had one HXD to SBY with the gear down a couple of years ago... Yes, very long flight.

Have you guys heard there was a CA that got an infection from a small cut on his elbow caused by an armrest? I saw it. It was a bad deal, and no BS.

Take care of yourselfs out there. "Deep cleaning" is another SBY phrase for "do nothing".

Yeah it's been a few years since the last one, we're about due. Everyone seemed to watch the prop while walking around for the first few months after it happened. I see them staring at their shuffling feet again.
