I know two things about those -12's.

1.) You have to be < 195 #'s
2.) They'll find/call you, not vice versa

#1 True.
#2...NOT.

The 5 SOS (AFRES PC12 Sq) is looking for pilots. Actively.

With regards to the HH47..I work at HRT as a reservist. AFAIK there are NO plans to incorporate new rotary wing assets into AFSOC's fleet...sorry to say. This coming from a fixed wing guy who thinks the CV22 is a POS and they should have stuck with a newer MH53.

CH47F and CSAR

The winner of the CSAR-X competition was the HH-47, having about 80% parts commonality with the MH-47G. Essentially it's an MH-47G with gold-plated ballast.

True, but they have announced a new release date early next year. Both contenders disputed the pick on two seperate bids. THe next one will be final.

Let's hope that does NOT happen. Most of the folks I know in the community (which is rescue) do NOT want the thing.

It's what I do for a living. The people who "Dont want the thing" have absolutely no clue of its abilities. I get a chucle every time I read a commentary in Rotor and Wing of some retired 05 or 06 who was rescued once or flew UH1's in Nam and states that the 47 is a POS. The New F is the most advanced helicopter in the world (even more so than the G) and can do things that I cant state here. I have done several CSAR missionsin (D models) in the field and at Red Flag, Green Flag and Night Flag. The missions I have been involved with were all a great success due specifically to the capabilities of the aircraft. The F blows away the D in all aspects. Task force has been using the 47's to conduct CSAR for years, try telling them it doesn't work.

The 60's are great but they arent worth a thing if they cant get the payloads where they need to go due to Density Altitudes. There is a reason that the 47's are used for most high alt rescues. The 53 is also another great aircraft for this mission as well.

What USAF Rescue unit are you with? Guard/Reserve/ AD?

No one is questioning its capes....but is it the right fit for how the Air Force does things? No one is saying it is a POS either. We had a couple of former (they saw the light) -47 drivers who agreed the -47 is a nice platform but may not be the right choice. What's the min LZ you need to put a -47 into?

Maybe what they should do is this. Have a couple of -47's for high altitude stuff and M models for the rest.

The H-60 cabin makes a great Huey replacement, but is too small to replace the HH-3 and HH-53. Too bad it took the AF 20 years to realize that. Toss in a couple of PJ's and their stuff, you can pick up one survivor without offloading mission equipment.

Just based on size, the S92 or EH-101 would make a great HH-3 replacement and the HH-47 would make a great HH-53 replacement (without a lot of the downwash in a hover).

I am ARMY and currently flying the F. If you look at the footprints of the three finalists, they are all very close. You are correct that the 47 is not an end all but I can assure you that it is very capable in this mission. It has proven itself over and over.

If possible, PM me with the names of the guys that you know. I knew of a few guys that have crossed over (I certainly would have loved to go that route but I went from the AF to the ARMY. What a culture shock:eek: ) and I would like to say hi!!

Any chance I could get some sim time with you when I am home? I live a mile for the Base.

Thanks, Tim
