Most people that wash out have no idea how to shoot a GPS approach. In reality, its just basic IFR stuff. The company needs to know that these guys/gals are going to be able to handle it. We routinely shoot approaches to mins.

What model GPS does RAF use?

Yeah but you said, "...and go wherever you want". Can you get the multi time and go to Southwest or UPS? ;-)

Yeah, sorry about that. I thought it was obvious that I didn't mean people could get on at UPS or even NASA. I mainly was referring to the Regionals.

Fuzzy ... I know someone very well who can fly a GPS approach, and has been bugging the guys in RDU periodically over the last year for info on a 500-hour VFR slot opening up. :D

I know. Ram used to keep one or two VFR-only guys around, but they stopped a couple years ago ... unfortunately. :(

Trust me, flying VFR at 500-2 isn't as fun as it sounds. You're much better off building your experience and actually flying IFR.

Currently I am getting paid $140-$200 per day wether its the single day route or with the second quick evening hop added on to the reg. route.

Yah maybe just a little Cowboy  Well i finally have something to brag a little bout :D Its been a long time since that has happened :) Just really happy to have a job.

ehehe i see :D Hey man whatever job you can get is a good one if you learn something from it. Its a dog eat dog world here in aviation and i've been eaten a few times before, not fun. But when you have something happen that you want to happen theres nothin you can do but smile from ear to ear. This is the only thing i'm meant to do....at least so far :D

so you wanna be a fright dog...

Just to give you another $.02-

RAF is great for those who have little multi time, but who want to built it quickly. That's the good news.

In exchange for this gift, however, you will not be based in RDU. You will have to move to one of the satellite bases. Which base will not be of your choosing... it will be based on company needs at the time. You will be allowed a total of 2 weeks of hotel time for all of your moves with RAF, including training. Training takes up 1 week, so figure an additional 1 week of hotel stay to get settled wherever you end up. Keep in mind this only applies for those people wanting quick multi upgrades. You can stay in RDU and fly the lance for months on end if you prefer.

Also, depending on the route, be prepared to max out your duty days (14 hrs a day / 5 days a week).... and you are working those lovely 70 hour weeks for $80 per day.... so you can do the math and see if it works for you. But then again, you may get lucky and end up with an 8 hr/day schedule. Everyone is paid the same... no matter the base, the duty times, or the airplane. Luck of the draw...

The cheif pilot is an easy person with whom to talk (and writes some of the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** entertaining-ist email operational criticisims you will ever read). Overall, it's a stable (for now.. while Check21 is just spooling up) company with old planes and decent (not scary) maintenance.

Just the thing for those burned-out CFI's needing to fly the airplane again... they're used to not having a life anyway.. ;)

Just wondering how the training goes. I see that Ram air has one week of training but Airnet has 5. Is that because you start in a single?

RAF and airnet aren't in the same league.. airnet has learjets and other turbine equipment...

chances of RAF getting Lears.... ever seen a snowball in PHX about this time of year?

that having been said, the training is adequet, assuming you can do an IAP down to mins before you get there. ground covers PA32 systems, 135 FAR's, weather, company procedures/paperwork, hazmat handling... basically stuff that will be new to you working at RAF. you can do that easily in a week.

oh, and you can buy Jepp if you want them, but the company issues FAA charts.

Airnet is hiring with right around Pt 135 IFR minimums. I don't know what the multi minimum is, but there were people in my class with under 50 multi. The minimum you can make in a day is $111.20, and many make over that with overtime pay. In my first year I'll make a little over $30k. You start off in a twin rather than waiting to upgrade to one- unless you start in the Caravan which is a sweet plane. Upgrade to the Lears is running about 12 months and we have jumpseat privileges so that no matter where you're based, you can still get home on your weekends if you want.

Any freight job is great flying which will really make you sharp, regardless of which company you go to, you'll develop very quickly as a pilot. Good luck finding the job that suits you best!
