Posted by FDJ....."This profession is one with a great degree of responsibility, so I for one believe that the respect and remuneration should be high. This does not make me greedy, I simply place a high value on the skills and contributions of this profession, and I believe that we should be well compensated for them....."

It may not make you greedy but it sure makes you sound like a pompous a$$. FDJ, you crack me up. Get over yourself, would you? Spoken like a true man of the PTC Estates. Got your pipe, robe. and ascot on? Every working man places a high value on his trade, son. You'll only be (relatively) "well-compensated" if there's not a great deal of workers who can do what only you can do. And we won't even mention the military and compensation, will we? There's the real rub--there are far too many guys who would do your job (as good as you do it) for MUCH LESS. And they have your big iron in their sights.

Sure, you done good, rang the bell and all that. But can you spell PARADIGM SHIFT? The RJs are here, props are about gone. From Joe Sixpack's perspective, you're really not worth that much more than the guy in the front seat of an RJ. Y'all ought to make about the same, really, give or take.

That's it in a nutshell. More are coming every day. It's the reason you keep looking over your shoulder. Yes, your leverage is in your contract. A contract is a contract and all that. Let's see what the next one looks like. And the one after that.

I hope you and NYR get recalled soon. But you won't be coming back to the same job you left, CS' remarks notwithstanding. But I hope you guys the lose the "I got mine, I'm keeping mine" attitude at the expense of all the new guys who deserve a share of the future. There's just not enough to go around if you guys keep the max pay to the last day mantra alive.

What he said wasn't that bad, really

I didn't see his original post, but your comments intrigue me.

What if he said that he feels that he should be paid according to his experience and responsibility instead of the way he worded his statement. Slightly different style, maybe more for Joe Sixpack, but it says the same thing.

If I had written it, as I have many times on the same issue, is that pilots should be paid commensurate with their responsibility. Is that so bad??

Let's examine the issue. Airline pilots have great and grave responsibilities. They're in charge of sophisticated machinery costing millions dollars. They're entrusted with the lives of people. You cannot put a value on life. Not only are they responsible for these lives, they are responsible for operating safety so as to not endanger other aircraft, but people on the ground and elsewhere.

Examine it from the regional pilots' perspective that you brought up. Their responsibilities are equally great and grave. Now, how much is a first-year FO paid? $14K? One can hardly regard that as being compensated commensurate with responsibility and experience. I realize the pay gets better after the first year.

Just another 2¢ opinion and perspective.
