Obviously depends on your call-out time, anf how often you get called. If you rarely get called, you could probably get any job you're qualified for as long as the boss has a clear understanding that you may cut and run.

You might be able to find a CFI job doing ground school or sim training so you don't bust any flight time limits.

Also, you could get a job on the opposite side of the clock from your reserve shift. That way if you get called to fly, you could just call in sick to the other job in advance and not have to walk off the job.

I'd recommend real-estate if the market wasn't in a shallow descent.

If you have significant technical/computer skills and can learn about network management, you can do that online from anywhere. Same with some programming work (ie web page design).

I bid reserve on purpose and don't feel the need to get a second job. Why do you feel you need a second job?

to subsidize the pay for the first job. Women don't come cheap and wives are even more expensive.

My dad used to do a joke like that...

Being a garbage man isn't so bad, $30 a week and all you can eat ;)

While you're on call, you might as well be on the phone. Try working up a sexy man voice, or female voice if easier, and try your luck as a 1-800 phone sex operator. If I remember, when I was desperate and used to call, I paid like 5 bucks a minute. Man, you could make 300 bucks an hour with practice. Dang...I might take my own advice.

Forget that Just change your Home number to a 1-900- number and charge the company $6.99 a min with a $15 connection charge everytime they call you and keep them on hold as long as you like.

THAT is a fantastically creative idea!

I referee soccer on my days off. Look into refereeing high school sports. Its fun, you get exercise, and earn a little bit extra.

i worked at papa johns and averaged $16.00 an hour with tips when i was on reserve i had a cool boss and she would let me cut and run and worked around my trips.

With today's gas prices, and the junkie car you're probably driving, (due to FO pay) you'll probably lose money driving pizzas all around town and your car breaking down. Your best bet is to live in your mother's basement. I did it.

I agree with ATR42. My first year at ASA i delivered pizzas part time and made some extra cash that way. They reimburse you for gas and if you have a car that gets good gas mileage, you will have your hourly pay + tips + extra gas money. And usually the owner is very flexible with your reserve schedule. I might start doing it again to help pay down some school loans while I sit around again.

Just make sure your in a good part of town. You dont want to be delivering in the hood or anywhere within about 75 miles of Atlanta!

I delivered pizzas at Papa Johns about 5 or 6 yrs ago, I also averaged 15-18 per hour. EASY job. Usually very flexible. I don't know what I'm going to do over the summer. My student loans start coming due in June. I thought about working as a doorman at the Cheetah. My buddy did it and made excellent cash. The girls tip you at the end of the night.

Job Ideas

When I was on reserve I picked up two extra jobs just for some spending cash. The school district I lived near only required 60 college credit hours and no teaching experience to be a sub, paid $75 a day. Not that great of a gig though, you gotta put up with a lot of crap. I also picked up a job as a Valet with a company that parks for 9-10 different restaurants in STL and a few country clubs. Thats a good job, work at night if you dont get called to fly, drive cool cars, and make good tips. The boss's at my place were great too, I worked when I wanted, they never called me to bug me. Good luck......

When I was on RES and bid it intentionally with ACA I was used 4-6 days out of the month. I started a landscaping business and was averaging $30-$50 an hour cash. If the phone rang I could finish the yard I was mowing and get the rest the next day or in a few days. Get all the lawns on the same schedule and do 10-12 in about 6 hours ($35 each lawn average). It paid better than my CA job.

(Wish I would have never picked up a lawnmower and got the 1000 PIC.)

If your interested in sales, I have a great job for anyone. I own a full color digital imaging company, www.impactcolormedia.com, we specialize in selling full color business cards to businesses. It is the easiest sales job ever. They are already buying business cards, this product is MUCH better and the price is about the same. I would estimate you will close over 35% of all businesses you call on. I have full time reps making over 50K. As long as you continue to sell for me I pay commisions on the reorders (no work for you, all done online). Work whenever you want, wherever you want. If you get a call out while on reserve, just finish up the sales call and head to the airport.

Thats the good stuff. Now the bad stuff:
It is a SALES job....no sales, no money. Commision only. No salary, no insurance, etc.. It is what you make of it. It can be great, or it can be crummy. Once again, its whatever you put into it. It is however, a great product at a great price point, which translates into great sales. I pay well but don't expect to get rich, but you could easily exceed your FO pay with only doing this 2 or 3 days a week.
If you are interested you can email me at [email protected]

1000 turbine PIC ain't gonna get you to SW anymore! I got 1200 and then bailed. DOH!

My suggestion is if you've got a type and enough time in type try some contracting work on the side. Mine pays $250/ day + expenses.
