I asked our POI the question about not having a CVR if the autopilot breaks and two pilots are required. They told me that if the autopilot is inop, which would require two pilots for pax IFR, then the airplane is grounded.
Our SIC has taken a check ride with the FAA. We never trained or checked as a crew(except for the SIC checkride). Our POI lets PIC's act as SIC's (both have PIC checks neither have SIC checks). If they have no SIC or PIC check they can't even touch the radios. I was asked that very question on my last check ride.
