Does anyone know what title Pan Am pilots used instead of "Captain"?

"Skipper"... At least that's what they called him to his face !

Believe it got it's start because of their fleet of "flying boats"

If you are talking about THE Pan Am. We had listing still on the bid packets that were leftover from the Boat days.

MPT Master Pilot
MCO Master Co-Pilot
FEO Flight Enigneering Officer

FEO was still used not Second Officer or FE.

The Second Officer was the Navigator back in the 60's. Good book worth reading is "Sky Gods". Can't remember the authors name but he was a Pan Am and Delta guy. Well written and sometimes amusing, other times pretty sad.

Chicken man? Chicken man...is that you?

If you dont know, read the above book. Great read and you will understand who Chicken man was....

Thanks TR4A...that's the info I was looking for!!

That book was great!

There's a great part in the begining with an awesome build up and a classic line;

"The skygod was an a$$hole!"

Also, a few good lessons on Deregulation, Wall Street and Airline management, and why alot of people are not really fond of Frank Lorenzo.

Glad I could help.

Skygods The Fall of Pan Am Robert Gandt

I thought he sugar coated it. Probably because he was now working for Delta.

Not sure why he would sugar coat a book just because he worked for Delta. Can you explain or enlighten us on that one.
