I was flying my pipeline route yesterday (in Oklahoma) around 1:15, had my radios on 122.8, and all of a sudden I hear "This is the U.S. Air Force on Guard... attention aircraft in the vicinity of Joplin regional airport, heading xxx, distance xxx, altitude xxxx, speed xxx, you have violated restricted airspace. You are instructed to exit the restricted airspace and contact the FAA immediately. Nearest exit point for the restricted airspace is 15 NM Northwest of your position." You know, I can see the occasional violation of a mile or so, but this guy was 15 MILES inside the TFR. Hell, I got an email notification of this same TFR almost a week ago. There are so many different ways to get this information now, what is it going to take to get some of these idiots to pull their heads out of their rectal areas and USE THEM!!

I remember leaving CRQ a few months ago about 15 mins before a presidential TFR went into effect in LA. I tuned up 121.5 on Comm 2 and monitored it, and sure enough, as soon as the TFR went hot, heard nothing but warnings and directions on the quickest way out of the TFR. Must have been 8-9 planes that got caught in it, most of them were in the VFR corridor, not talking to SoCal. Check those notams, boys and girls!!

There's something of a restricted nature in Joplin??

Lemme guess...the President was visiting the World's Largest McDonalds just down the road (anybody beside me ever had the hankering to fly underneath it??), and everybody had to stay clear just in case some rogue revealed more fraud on his account? Golly, I feel safer already.

We never tell them to leave. We go get them and escort them out.

Vinita, OK right? They didn't exactly have the World's Friendlist McEmployees when I stopped in...

I agree that it is now easy to obtain TFR information; however, what good do they really do? These aren't walls in the sky and if the guy was already 15 miles inside the TFR, then obviously, TFRs do not work.

The President has been in town here for the past 2 days and I've had to cancel several flights. I'd like to send a bill to the White House for all my lost revenue.

Yes, indeedy. They did replace my drink when I dropped it on the floor, no questions asked. That's something.

I used to tie down the tail of the cub at a small strip just to the side of that place, and walk up to have a bit to eat.

What on earth is the President doing in Joplin? Run out of world crises to attend?

Iraq. Afghanistan. North Korea. Joplin.

I get it.

I can tell you what, it will take an END to all these stupid and pointless TFRs.
What a silly, feel-good exercise at the expense of our freedoms.

Amen to that. And for all the uninformed who cant figure out why there was a TFR over Joplin, next week is election week... the good ole Prez is all over the place this week campaigning for his chronies. Heck, I've got two of the d@mn things to dodge on Monday down in TX.

"We never tell them to leave, we go get them and escort them out"- Well, they d@mn sure told this guy to leave, although I would imagine that he had some company arrive in short order just to make sure he was headed in the right direction on the way out.

"...ATTENTION! THIS IS THE ALARMFORCE CENTRAL STATION..."

Not all TFR's are silly expenses of freedom. When I see TFR's busted, it's often a stupid act on the part of someone violating a TFR that was put there for a very good reason, and it's putting lives and property at risk, including my own. I've seen TFR's violated by light antique airplanes, airliners, and military aircraft that the military won't yet admit exist (at the time)...all had the same effect; they interrupted the operation underway, cost time, money and risked the lives of every person tasked with that operation.

Rather than try to second guess the purpose of the TFR, just stay out. I don't see it costing anybody any freedom. I think the presidential TFR's aren't well managed and go to excess, but I don't get to make those decisions, so I don't worry about them. They don't last long, they move on...just not a big deal.

Your freedoms are not being eroded, and demoracy as you know it is not ending with a resounding crash. It's just a TFR...that's Temporary flight restriction. Temporary. Take a deep breath and go around.
