Not according to the MEL...he just can't go at night. He also takes a 450 pound hit from the RAM (Rooftop Analysis Manual) for each reindeer that's inop.

If he loses three or more, it's gotta be a static takeoff.

Do you know if they got to keep the deer? What did they use to get it on the runway for the kill? A salt lick or feed? Did the authorities accuse them of spotlighting with their landing light?

If it were me, I would sharpen up those props for the next round to get a cleaner kill.

Well, since he was operating over five hundred years before the FAR's were written, they've grandfathered a lot of stuff for him. For example, you notice he doesn't have an "N" number displayed. It'd be a shame to get him mixed up with all the other nine-reindeer-powered sleighs that are flying around. (I think Great Lakes has a couple...)

I saw the results once when a C-5 hit a deer on the runway. They found the rack (which was about all they found) and mounted it with a plaque underneath that said "In support of operation Provide Venison".

I'm surprised there was so little damage to the airplane (at least that which is obvious).

I saw the aftermath of what a deer did to a Shorts a few years back and the damage was simply amazing. Wing strut, wheel fairing, prop damage, you name it.

Wouldn't they have to do a gearbox teardown after a hit like that? Maybe an engine teardown?
