In industry news, UAL Corp. (UALAQ: news, chart, profile) , the bankrupt parent of United Airlines, said earlier that it lost $326 million during the first month of the year, wider than last year's loss of $252 million.

Yes I know 136 million was for write offs and 63 million was for more $$$ at the pump. But that still means they are leaking about 4 million a day.

That's like $700 a minute.

"I just don't get it...how are they still losing THAT MUCH money?!?"

It takes a lot of skill and ingenuity!

Obviously they have hired my ex-wife as the CFO.. . .

I guess they didn't check the couches in the crew lounge for loose change.

But then again, the crew room furnishings may have been re-possessed already...oops, I forgot, they got the judge to block couch repo by saying it was a consipracy among furniture providers...

And they'll pay out the nose when they give Air Wisconsin the boot. Won't THAT look good next quarter! ha ha ha

Ahh don't worry about that S. remember that AWAC took your money that was supposed to go to UAL and they bought USAir. You are in great shape now :D

Good for AWAC. I'm glad they stood up to United, gave them the middle finger and told them to "sit and spin!"

Yeah I think ACA did that too:rolleyes:

Wow, at $7,000/minute I could pay for my entire college education AND flight training so far in about 20 minutes. Heck, a shiny and loaded new Skyhawk is only half an hour away...

Maybe they should get rid of pillows on domestic flights. They could also start selling the snack packs for $3.00 each. Its says it contains gourmet snacks.

I wonder if it's just a numbers game. Politicians do the same thing when they talk about losing / gaining money.

If an organization one year makes $100, and the next year they make only $90, they will call that a $10 loss. They still made $90, but the only number you see or hear about is the $10 loss.

If a company was actually losing hundreds of millions of dollars in a month, why would they keep operating?

Does this make any sense, or am I just tired? If UAL is a public company, is there any way to look at the actual figures to see and understand the real story?¿

Credit card companies want UAL to stay in business... so everybody will keep their "miles", keep spending and maintain a high balance.

Confucious say..........When you owe the bank a million dollars, the bank ownes you. When you owe the bank a hundred million dollars, you own the bank. That pretty much sums up what we're seeing with United and UAir these days.
