I am thinking about finishing up my degree. My company has a tuition reimbursement program that will pretty much cover the costs and it's a box I would like to have checked. Here are a couple of the questions I have.

I have about 20 hours from going to college about 8-9 years ago. This was a non-aviation program. Think these will help?

Would you go for a aviation degree or something else? Considering that I could probably get about 32 credits for the licenses that I have in a aviation program. And I think some of the courses might be easier because I am familiar with the subjects.

On the other hand having a degree in something else would offer options if something ever happened?

Is there a good degree that might balance the best of both worlds?

What schools are good (and fair) when it comes to online degrees?

I want something that is interesting so that I am more likely to finish. I'm open to all input. Thanks!

Utah Valley State College has a good online degree program. They give a ton of credit for ratings. If you're flying jets most of the courses will be review and you can knock those out very quickly. Any degree is better than no degree. I would recommend a non-aviation degree if there's anything else you're interested in.

Just get a degree in Aviation and be done with it. Unless you get an engineering degree you wont get a good job in another field. All my friends with engineering degrees are fresh out of college making $50K - $80k first year. These guys are total retards too! All my other friends with the usual business degree of some sort cant find a job that pays anything. They happen to be brilliant in their field of study however, there are too many people with those types of degrees and not enough jobs...

All Im saying is just get an easy degree and hope for the best. Any other degree will require more work and not necessarily be worthy of falling back on.

I too need to finish my degree. At UVSC I only need 30 credits to get my aviation degree. Thats what Im going to do this summer!

Good luck Mod!

I just fired off a e-mail to UVSC. Define a "ton of credit for your ratings." If it helps I am a Captain on a jet a on-demand freight company.

Any other schools to look into? I want to really consider all my options before I embark on this one.

I was planning on doing my degree through ERAU a while back. If memory serves me correct, I think it was about 30 credits for all your ratings up to CFI. I dont think an ATP or a type rating gets any credits? I am going to get in touch with UVSC soon and would assume the same story.

Are you saying that you only had to do 30 credits? Thats nuts!

How much do credits cost?

Yes, I have 3 years of college and all my ratings. Not all of my credits transfer for an aviation degree. So about 30 cedits dont transfer, but my ratings make up 30 credits, so I can bust out an online degree in aviation in no time!

I was checking into an online degree with Riddle and they informed me that the schooling I had was worth 30 total credits towards an aviation degree. I attended school for my A&P for 2 years and then have all my rating up to ATP.

The problem with Riddle was that their A&P course is worth approximately 70 credits and they only wanted to give me 15 for my A&P and 15 for all my flight training.
