I know what major I want to apply to, when I get to that point.
Southwest, second choice is Continental. That kind of job security in this field is a force, I want to be a part of.

As far as reginals go Skywest, Air Wisconson, Comair,& Continental Express are on the top of my list.:D

Jeremy,

Please do some more research and take Eagle off of your list.

Eagle

The boys are right. I know first hand that Eagle is the LAST place you want to be. Great people, good training, but you get treated like ............. well, you don't want to go there.

Do yourself a favor and look into UPS or Fed Ex. If you want stability and longterm growth look at freight. The financial statement of either company should put them on the top of anyone's list of majors to work for.

I have a few questions. What kind of schedule is typical for a cargo, [UPS/Fedex] pilot? Is it true that you only fly vampaire hours? Is the pay compareable, better, worse? I'm guessing you lose out on the free travel for family vacations?

Thanks,
Jeremy:confused:

"When you get to the gate you can plan to be off and heading to the hotel easily within 5 minutes - none of this greating your pax as they deplane and taking blame for any "Navy carrier landing".

Yeah, but I bet you don't say, " hey check out that really sexy box back there. "

Cargoing...

I'll second MailMan's statements...

I too am happily married, have great job security (insofar as anything is secure) at FedEx, and do about 50/50 day/night. Chasing skirts is good if you're single...if you're married...well, like an airline pilot friend said..."If you want to be rich as an airline pilot, keep your first wife and your first house!".

I'll also second MailMan's comments in that you need to sit down with pilots from both pax and cargo to really get a feel for which is right for you!

FastCargo

PS BTW, I really liked the part of the Time article where the SWA pilots voted out their union leadership because they thought they were out of touch with the pilot force. I'd love to get the inside story about that!

MailMan/FastCargo:

It isn't all about chasing skirts. It is about crew and passenger interaction. Meeting people and sharing experiences with them is part of the joy of being in the industry. The exposure level is much higher in the passenger realm than the freight realm.

It makes an overnight in a nice city much more interesting when the whole crew ( pilots and flight attendants ) or most of the crew spend time together doing something fun or sharing a meal. That is part of the joy of living and the more people there are, the merrier(SP?) it is.
