I agree capt_zman. My comments weren't about the appropriateness of hiring a 1500 hour pilot to fly a jet single pilot. What started as a correction to Timebuilder's comments about retirees likely taking those positions turned into yet another fight with Mr. Ego trip.
And you are right, it's not the norm. However, the norm does seem to be between 2500 and 3500 hours to be hired at some SoCal operators as a single pilot in the CJ. I gave LOTS of inside hiring information to several on this board that had interviews at 4 different operators who had been hiring over the past 2 years in SoCal. The average total time seemed to be around 3000 hours. Two had 2500 hours. I just looked up the profiles of some of the people on this board that had interviews that contacted me for information, and that seems to be the average time. Of course, this is just observations from a localized area.
In terms of ability to fly the CJ, the 1500 hour guy did a great job. It's a simple airplane to fly, and I think most 1500 hour pilots with a good head on their shoulders would be able to fly it competantly as well. That's why they are being marketed to owner-operators.
