Yeah, there must be an echo. Just kidding, "The High and the Mighty" is a dam good movie. I know I've still got my copy somewhere.

I forgot about "The Pilot" with Cliff Robertson. It is another great airline pilot movie (like "Airport") that shouldn't be missed. Actually, in light of current events (TSA screeners busting pilots for being under the influence) this might not be a good movie for those who don't drink...

"BAT 21" with Gene Hackman and Danny Glover, for some serious nap-of-the-earth flying.

"Never Cry Wolf", which is a Disney movie, but has some good crazy bush flying.

Disney! I forgot about The Last Flight of Noah's Ark, starring Eliot Gould and the C.A.F.'s "FiFi."

"Always" with John Goodman, Holly Hunter, and Richard Dreyfuss (directed by Spielberg) is pretty good.

And even though this one isn't solely an aviation flick check out "Fandango" (1984) Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson about a group of guys graduating and getting drafted, so in one last fling before Vietnam, a road trip is in order. Judd Nelson is the whiner of the group and he is cornered into making his first parachute jump to redeem himself. Enter Truman Sparks, a unique character to say the least, with his psychedelic Cessna, complete lack of regard for anything that resembles a reg, and his wreck of a school in the middle of the desert (complete with crashed airplanes still stuck into the rundown hangar that houses his "school") Anyway Truman's hilarious antics make watching the movie worthwhile and the chase scene with Truman (who has no clue) and a police helo is pretty good also.

BAT 21

That really is a good movie, and is a very very true story for that very matter. Alot of nap of the earth in that 02, its got some F5 footage. Alot of helicopter scenes. One of my favorite movies.

Air America was good as well. This movie is a all around great flying flick especially is you like Pilatus Porters.

If you all are getting modern, there is always Harrison Ford in Airforce One. He also is pilt in the movie Six Days Seven Nights. That movie has alot of good DH2 Footage.

If anyone sits down to watch "Fate is the Hunter", don't expect anything that resembles the book. The story is totally different; actually not too bad in itself, but it was hopelessly screwed up by Hollywood. If you read Gann's autobiography, "A Hostage to Fortune", he goes into detail on how disappointed he was with how the directors and producers twisted his vision into their own creation.
Of course, to do justice to his book would require a "Band of Brothers"-type miniseries.
BTW, I just ordered my copy of "A Piece of Cake" from The Armchair Aviator. Gotta recommend that one again.....

Somewhat off the subject: people have asked me what movie most accurately portrays life in the Army. Platoon? Firebirds?

The truth is the original M*A*S*H with Donald Sutherland and Tom Skeritt came the closest to reality...

im gonna nit pick a little. its true that Jimmy stewart's character was a professional baseball pitcher called to active duty in the air force. however his stiff shoulder injury was caused by a crash in the B-36 (how many could say they survived that).
