I can hold Captain now, and I will bid it probably before the SLI. We will have another bid very soon, and a couple more for new 777 slots (remember we get 6 of them within 3 months time---FIRM ORDER). We may have a joint contract soon, but the SLI will take awhile. The 737-700s are coming shortly, and I will throw a bid in and see if I can get it. I can't wait---it will be FANTASTIC.

The development comes on top of a $16 million charge the company took in the first quarter related to work force reduction efforts, Delta said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Delta has accepted buyouts from more than 3,000 employees.
Delta is also taking an $8 million charge this quarter to close certain airport clubs.
In addition, Delta said other cost-saving efforts would result in other expenses.
"Additional charges are expected to be incurred in future quarters in connection with other announced initiatives," the company said.

- Hedged considerably on fuel. Big $$. BIG. In a twisted sort of way, the high fuel prices are helping us versus much of the rest of the industry. We are being hurt less than most of the other carriers, and especially the so called "low fare" carriers. Their cost advantages are completely buried by high fuel prices. Levels the playing field, and we win in that sort of environment.

This doesn't pass the "stink test".

Your non-fuel CASM are still over HALF of the equation on the cost side. So, if everyone is paying the same for fuel, your costs are still higher.
Kind of like the old joke about the airline that "loses a little money on every flight, but makes it up in quantity!". :laugh:

They got 3000 people to accept early out retirements. That's good, making it voluntary. They are being proactive in closing lounges that are not needed, and have other "initiatives" that will help with cost cuts.

I wouldn't be trying to incinuate anything about others if I were you, champ...... If you are actually making a reference to some obscure character in a movie about men's figure skating-I would think you would probably have very little room to call anyone or anything else "creepy."

Not sure I follow the logic on this one when you consider how much higher the fuel burn is on an MD-80 or DC-9 compared to a 717 or 737-700. Something on the order of 100 lbs per minute vs 75 lbs per minute. (at least for the 737 - the 717 is close to the same).

OBTW - Don't get me wrong. I certainly hope Delta does turn a profit.

Allegiant makes money with the 80's. The key will be if the 9 with no lease payment, if used on the right routes can be as cost effective as a new 737 w/a big lease payment and not that much less of a fuel burn.

The 737-700s have different missions then a dc9 does so the comparison isnt a good one on many different levels.
