A western Queensland Mayor says he will be taking his concerns about air safety to a regional air carrier after a flight from remote Queensland was terminated.
Diamantina Mayor Robbie Dare says a Macair service from Mount Isa to Brisbane was terminated at Windorah earlier this week due to an engineering fault.
He says the nine passengers on board had to wait most of the day for a replacement plane.
Councillor Dare says it is vital safety is not compromised on regional flights.
"One of the planes we were on ran out of oil ... lost oil pressure at Windorah ... we had to wait there about 8 hours and the reason for the long delay was the plane that was coming to pick us up had the same problem and it lost oil pressure, so it's a concern all right when two planes in the one day have the same problem," he said.
A spokeswoman for Macair says the replacement aircraft had to come from Townsville via Brisbane but proceeded without incident.
She says Macair regrets the delay for passengers.
