For those flying consistently in and out of ORD -- during any given day do you see at least 3-4 "go arounds" or are these still quite uncommon?

I was at ORD yesterday and my flight was delayed. Could swear I saw at least 2.

I don't fly there all the time, but I would have to guess that a fair number of go-arounds are always going to be there with massive amounts of traffic (more oportunities for mistakes that can lead to go-arounds) and the necessary use of crosswind runways for landing- even with truly nasty winds.

MSP is Go-Around Central.....

I'll second that. One time on a MDW MSP MDW turn I got sent around by the doofus controller at 400ft after he cleared a Saab to go while he was still 200ft back on the parallel taxiway - and we were on a two mile final. Heading back, we got sent around at MDW when the local controller apparently thought a Saab wouldn't slow below 160 knots inside the marker, or thought we would.

I don't remember any problems when I was flying out of ORD. They did a pretty good job, as long as you did what they said - AND NEVER STOPPED ON AN ACTIVE TAXIWAY UNLESS THEY TOLD YOU TO - you avoided Mexicana-style abuse.

It is rare based on my 7 years flying out of ORD. The controllers do a great job. Flying the assigned speed is obviously important, and I have heard the ORD controllers really chew out some guys for slowing up prior to the marker. Sometimes the spacing gets tight and S-turns are required to make it work. I typically selct the "rose" mode 5 mile range on the Navigation display for TCAS so that I can clearly "see" the traffic behind me on final. That way, if I can see the guy is running out of room behind me, I can at least try for an earlier runway turnoff to help out and keep things moving. Unless of course it is American back there.....:D

I have seen a number of go-arounds at MSP too. Supposedly, the 'cordinators' have 'fixed' the problem. Whatever that is.
