[The attached letter will be sent to all pilots on furlough today (Monday Dec. 22, 2003).]

---------(start copy)--------------

December 22, 2003

To: Northwest Pilots on Layoff Status
From: Tim Rainey, Sr. VP Flight Operations & SOC
Re: 2004 Pilot Staffing Update

As indicated in my last letter, we want to keep you informed of changes to pilot staffing plans that may affect pilots on layoff status. Based upon the current flying level forecast and anticipated pilot retirements and other attrition for 2004, we are predicting the need to recall a limited number of laid off pilots during 2004. However, you should know that current projected flying levels for 2004 will actually result in fewer pilots on payroll status at the end of 2004 than at the beginning of the year because projected pilot attrition levels will be greater than the number of pilots who need to be recalled.

Although specific numbers are still uncertain at this time, we estimate that we will recall approximately 10 to 20 pilots to commence training in April 2004. Pilots impacted by this initial recall will be contacted in late January or early February with more specific information. All laid off pilots should make sure that they have provided Flight Operations Human Resources with accurate contact information.

Based on present projections, we are hopeful that the recall process will continue at a rate of approximately 10 to 20 pilots per month in subsequent months in 2004. However, it should be realized that these numbers are preliminary and are subject to change based upon a number of factors. Our plans need to remain flexible to adjust to market demands and business needs. We are still in a very difficult time for our industry.

I once again want to thank you for the contributions and sacrifices you’ve made to the success and survival of this airline. I wish all of you and your families a very happy and safe holiday season.

Sincerely,

Tim Rainey

Great news! I hope that some of our furloughs at Delta eventually get the call too.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes:

And to top it off---CO is recalling 170 of their furloughs. So, with this big codeshare CO/NW/DL---you would HOPE that DL might someday recall too.....

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes:

How many NWA folk's out right now?

According to alpa.org website, NWAC has a total of 928 pilots on furlough. Alpa.org lists NWAC's most recent furloughs as:
10 on 1 Nov 03
20 on 1 Oct 03
80 on 1 Sep 03.

So it sounds like 90-180 pilots will be getting back to work. Great news, I wish it were all of them.

I can only imagine the stress of being in the second part of that group.

40 recalls in April. That's all that's been said since the first letter estimating 10-20 per month. No word on May, June, etc
