Hi all,

FWIW, NWA recalled 35 more to train in June, to return to flying in July

Makes for about 115 recalled so far, but with deferrments and military obligations, probably around 130-135 or so have had the chance to return.

There is a good chance that this rate will taper off in the comming months, as NWA runs a seasonal schedule, and as the ASMs taper back, the recalls will slow a bit.

Nice to see that some people are making it back somewhere, though.

Best,
Nu

That is great news.

Bye Bye---General Lee;)

That is wonderful news!!! Congratulations!
I hope all will start hearing this kind of news soon.

Hi all,

Figure about that 800+ are still furloughed. NWA is apparently replacing attrition and retirements. Bottom line, though, is that even with the same ASMs, fewer pilots are required due to AC retirements. A320s replaced the 40 or so 727s, 757-300s replaced the DC-10-40s, which are also all gone, and A330s are replacing DC-10-30s, so you get a %33 reduction in headcount right there.

747 capacity has been pulled back in the pacific, and replaced with A320s and 757s. NWA owns the 747-200s free and clear, so it doesn't cost them anything to park them. Same with the DC-9s, although word is that all of the DC-9s will be out of storage by summer, with only a few 757s left in the desert.

Best,
Nu

Good news. And, don't forget you are starting new service (that we used to fly....) from PDX to NRT--initially with a DC-10, and then an A330 eventually.

Bye Bye--General Lee;)

The only problem with NWA is they are robbing the Blue tails to keep more Red tails flying. So we have the same number of guys on the street and less flying

With the 35 recalls in July, what will be the hire date of the most senior furloughed pilot or of the most junior recalled pilot?

At least with the A330 replacing the DC-10, it will create more captain positions since NW flies with two captains and one FO on blocks over 8 hours. Gotta look for the bright side!!

Don't bet the house on the In't Res Capt to last forever. That is one thing mgt would like to get rid of as a cost cutting measure.

Way to go NWA, I hope you are all back to work soon...

...I have some good friends over at the Big Red.

Blue tail = UA?

Maybe one of NWA's regional partners ... Mesaba or Pinnacle?

Glad to hear that things are starting to turn around in the industry. Recalls starting at NWA and Delta are a great start.
I'm hoping that UAL and AMR aren't too far behind.

Thedude,

How can NWA be "robbing" you of flying?

We are two separate companies.

You have got to be kidding! Please explain to us how NWA is robbing Champion Air.

Yes, "thedude"............

I am also interested in how NWA doing more flying is keeping champion pilots, a seperate company, on the street.

I think that 'thedude' is just looking to blame someone else (Northwest and their pilots) for the problems at Champion.
That's a crappy way to go through life. Feces happens; you gotta deal with it and move on.
Now, who do I blame for no recalls at UAL??? :D

Andy, I think you should blame Aloha and World for the lack of recalls at UAL.

After all, one of them is roughly 2200 miles from the mainland and the other flies cargo.........:D :p

Yep, I was thinking that it those two and Hawkins and Powers (the firefighters out of Greybull, WY). If not for those three companies, I'd be back flying the line at UAL. :D

You are crazy! Im sorry you are furloughed but last I checked was Champion was flying the NWA sport charters. Also I have seen a few old RW 727s with Champion.

Oh by the way, I think NWA has 898 furlougees too.

Adios
