Well, in the five buroughs most are restricted to transporting it in a locked box with any rounds stored seperstely, a few candidates, 99% of the time retired cops, are allowed to carry concealed.

They are very strict with it, as I have a concealed carry and can do so until I hit queens, where I would have to unload it and lock it up. But city residents are still allowed to own.

There is also a limit to how often a resident of the five buroughs can purchase a handgun. Only one a year, or one every six months, I forget exactly, it has been awhile since I was selling them. But there are definately limitations for those in the city.

One of the limo drivers at Teterboro who was waiting for passengers (thankfully not mine) showed me his New York carry permit - so I know they exist, but I don't have any idea why he needed one or qualified to get one and wasn't inclined to get too pushy in asking him why.
