Anyone.... I haven't jumpseated on NWA since my airline became CASS approved. Does NWA take unlimited jumpseaters, and do you need to list, if so what's the number. Thanks....

I jumpseat on NWA quite frequently. They do not take unlimited jumpseater's. They are permitted to take 2 offline jumpseat riders in the cabin. They are cass approved (my airline is not), but I don't have any experience utilizing it. I do know that offline pilots cannot list for the jumpseat. Many of the gate agents will ask if you are listed, and quite frankly, get upset if you are not. There is some breakdown of communication between the flight department and their agents. Only NWA pilots can list. I simply apologize for not being listed and hope for the best.

Have never had a problem.....all of the NWA pilots have been very accomodating.

Nope, no offline listing for the jumpseat is allowed. And yeah, the gate agents frequently have absolutely no idea that we can't do that. Then they throw a hissy fit when they have to list you. And blah blah blah...

As RU said, the pilots are generally really good about jumpseating. They just might not be quite as friendly as times past due to all of the crap goin' on. But you should still have no problem getting home as long as there are seats available in the back.

If you are CASS you don't even need a seat available in the back, just a vacant cockpit jumpseat. If the cockpit jumpseats are taken we can take 2 more offline jumpseaters in the cabin as long as there are seats available. Points to remember and point out(gently) to the agent if necessary: The above mentioned policy on 2 additional offline guys in cabin...some agents claim to not know this.A320/319's have 2 cockpit J/S. If the cockpit J/S is taken by a NW pilot and there are no other seats available in the cabin the NW pilot can ride the F/A jumpseat if available thereby making the cockpit J/S open for the offline guy(assuming CASS qualified).

Obviously, I can't speak for all NW pilots and like most places we have our 1% of idiots/jerks, but it generally makes the whole walk-up procedure smoother if you can talk to a pilot, CA or FO, at the gate. A high % of us commute and know the J/S system well and can smooth things over with the 1% (10% ?) of agents who are unfriendly/clueless.

For what it's worth I carry offline guys all the time and have never heard from them or witnessed any problems at the gate with the agents. Common sense applies i.e. don't go to the front of a long checkin line and interrupt the lone overworked agent to ask for the J/S. Try to find the crew in those cases.

Yep, thats my bad... I quickly read the first post and I thought that I read he was not CASS approved. That should make things alittle easier for ya...

Offline guys..... don't be put off by the nasty agents.

We're treated like sh!t when we show up with a positive space crew deadhead ticket.

Don't feel singled out, the agents are understaffed, overworked, and generally dislike almost anybody.

320AV8R, wonderfully said! I've come across great gate agents that will go above and beyond for us, but I do understand some have bad days from time to time.

First off, thanks to NW! Almost everytime I jumpseat with you guys (twice a month or more) I am treated like a king and if there is a first class seat open, my butt always ends up in it thanks to some really cool peeps! Of course, I do bring candy bribes whenever possible.....That said, the best way I have found to deal with the listing issue is to list as an ID 90 traveller. Sometimes that ends up opening its own can of worms, but for the most part it makes it easier (and the agents nicer) when you're already in the system. My two cents worth...
