Whats the latest with the DC-9s, more importantly, whats the NWA fleet going to look like in 5-10 years? Any help is appreciated as I'm about send in my app.

154 DC-9's replaced by 154 EMB-170/190's!

Can you say Compass Rose?

Not gonna happen with the current scope clauses. Two levels of protection for the mainline pilots here:

1. Regionals cannot fly anything with more than 76 seats

2. Even if they manage replace some DC-9 flights with 76 seater airplanes, there is a maximum limit to the number of aircrafts which can be farmed out to regionals---currently they are close to being maxed out. As of today, only a maximum of 20 more aircrafts can be flown by regionals.

So, unless the pilots cave in on scope (which is very unlikely), DC-9 flying ain't going anywhere else. NWA is looking at a replacement from Bombardier currently---which will be flown by mainline pilots.

Well the next round of negotiations you will give away more mainline flying........Just like you did to keep your pensions and the younger generation will be working harder and longer to keep you in your current standard of living while ours keeps going down and down.

Hi!

The DC-9s are scheduled to be replaced by the Bombardier "C" aircraft, a 100-150-seat class airplane in about 2012 or 2013.

Here's the engine, a Geared Turbofan:

Boeing is trying to get NWA to delay it a couple of years so they can buy Boeings new 100+ seat-class airplane to be built using 787 technology.

PS-The 787 looks like it will now be delayed by about a year.

Not quite. There hasn't been a decision made yet and the DC9 replacement is still being "studied". The C series is just one of the airplanes that NWA is looking at.

Hi!

Whatever they pick, I hope they get the pay changed before it shows up on property!!!

I wonder how many pax realize they are flying on a 35-40 yr old plane.

I wonder how many people care. It's a cheap ticket.

Besides, the interiors still look new, and that's all people see.

How many people have you seen lately look at the outside of an airplane, or even raised their head for more than 10 seconds from their laptop/cellphone/crackberry/whatever....

Nu

None, except GA pilots who are on board. Most pax's got their heads so far up their asses, they will never see the light of day.

Well Said!!!! You got that right.

the only visual cue for the pax would be the dirty, dandruff filled, soiled, greasy, lice laden, upholstery on the head rest area. other than that, does the $hidder work?
