I had a question for those of you that are computer savvy with your reservations computers at work.

Last month, I was coming back from Hong Kong, and jumpseated on NWA. I was told by the gate agent that I had to be listed for the jumpseat and they could not do it. I told them that its not possible for me to list since I am an offline jumpseater.

On sabre at usairways, there is a page on the computer where a gate agent can look to see the procedures for jumpseaters. Do any of you know the computer commands for other airline computers so I could give them something to reference next time this happens?

Thanks

I'm with you, man. International jumpseating is so stressful -- I'd rather work the trip! It just took me 2 days to get back from SNN. I will admit there was lack of planning on my part.

I tried the USAirways jumpseat but was told I had to list 24 hours in advance -- this is news to me since I normally use Delta. I don't understand the 24 hour nonsense -- I obviously could not occupy the j/s so why the 24-hour limitation? I could easily BUY a ticket with less than 24 hours notice and sit in the same seat in the cabin I would have if I jumpseated.

To add insult to injury no one at USAirways in SNN knew how to list me. I spent 15 Euro calling the US non-rev number to no avail. Luckily I was able to take a DL j/s the next day (their requirement was only 75 minutes -- again: where's the logic?)

In any event both flight and cabin crews at both airlines (USAir to SNN then DL back to the US) were top notch and put me in business class. My sincerest thanks to all those crews at airlines who take international jumpseaters and extend their hospitality to us off-liners! Hopefully I will be able to do the same thing someday.

I would guess that the 75 minute requirement is to put you on the pax manifest so you can be checked against the "no-fly" list prior to boarding. As far as USAir is concerned, who knows?????

They can list you. The gate agent was just lying, and probably too lazy to re-type you in as a code 9H.

All it takes is a couple of key-strokes.

Talk to your unions jumpseat committee chair. They will fill you in.
