I've heard there's thousands (3-5?) of apps in the online system at SWA - anybody with a hack on how many of those are 737 typed?
Thanks

Skipper

5500 apps on file
1000 with type ratings

In a recent conversation with the people department.

Oh my wow.

That's it? I would have guessed 10,000+ total apps and a whole bunch more with types. I suppose that's encouraging. Maybe I will sit, watch and wait for the phone to ring after all...

Thanks for the info!

And I assume that all of those apps (5500) have the 1000 PIC Turbine minimum?

Also, any idea how many of those (5500) apps have 4-year degrees?

I talked to the PHX Chief Pilot last week. He confirms 5000+ apps, 1000+ with type ratings. They have not run analysis for other parameters, ie. age, college, mil/civ. All apps must meet the mins to even be looked at.

I would have to respond that I believe all 5500 + apps onfile do have at least 1000 PIC turbine.

There were two guys in my new hire class without a college degree. Thus, I would project there are probably 500 or so folks without a college degree within the app. stack.

There are probably 1000 or so folks out there without a college degree that have decided not to apply because they think they need a college degree to work at SWA. Which is not true.

Maybe just as many folks that meet the mins, have a college degree and want to work for SWA but have never applied.

Bottomline - Get your $hit into the CPU!!!

Good Luck!

BHS. Do you have your app. in? If not, please do. You never know what they're looking for. That includes the degree. I could go on........Get your stuff in!

Yep, Make SWA tell you no, don't tell yourself no.

We are looking for friendly/SAFE pilots with type ratings.(period)

Juan2go, yes I have had my stuff in since January of 2002, was prevously interviewed in spring of 2001. I choked up in the interview. So with that said just waiting and hoping. Next time I won't be downing Red Bull before the interview. Thanks for the support. Where are you at in your career?

Type rating = good. That means you can be assigned a class sooner. Priority is a good word for it.

Not all of these 1000 folks will get a job with SWA. I mean in the past SWA hired 1 out of every 8 interviewed. Now that they are on a competitive basis that ratio will change. Who knows what it will be? 3 out of every 5???

Before they would interview everyone that applied.

juan2go, soon to be called 800049000;)

8,000 for 9,000

Yea, still need to p/u the new stuff. I'm waiting until after my p.c. later this month. So much to learn!

juan

Type or no type

From the folks who have interviewed this week there have been folks with types & those without types. There have been folks who had never applied to SWA before 12 Jan '04, there were folks who had been waiting for quite some time. I don't know about college degrees vs. just HS/GEDs.

What does this tell you? As others have said, "don't short-change yourself", go ahead & apply if you know you meet the minimums & feel your quals are competitive. That last part is the tough part but if they aren't competitive her is a scenario that could only help you in the long run or short run:

1. Meet the mins.
2. You apply & get called for an interview dispite the fact you may not be the "most competitive" in terms of quals
3. Interview experience..."priceless"
4. Get turned down because you lake experience

So what have you gained?
1. The experience of the interview.
2. The opportunity to get lucky on your first try.
3. Possibly given feedback on what you need to do to become more competitive & then you go out & get those holes filled. SWA does this in most instances.
4. SWA knows you're interested & the next time you come you'll know what is coming.

Folks may say why would I re-apply after having been turned down? The wait is 2 years but what is that in terms of an aviation career?

It is the time you need to fix the things you needed fixing when you interviewed the first time...flight time, more complex aiccraft time, more PIC time, upgrade time, experience, more folks who get to know you & contacts at SWA or other potential employers.

So don't shortchange yourself & miss the opportunity to hit a homerun the first time. Good luck to all.
