For general information to all crews at "majors." Continental Express has changed the IDs for all flightcrew, change to be effective for all crewmembers no later than December 1st.

Our IDs now say ExpressJet on the top.

This has already been an ongoing problem as no one has ever heard of this airline. We are "Jetlink" on the radio, so most of you have heard that. It is the same exact company formerly known as Continental Express.

Please note this change and pass it on to as many of your fellow pilots as possible because we at ExpressJet have been having a royal clusterf#!k of a time getting on jumpseats. Denials have occured on American, Alaska, United, Delta, there have even been issues with Continental, our major partner. Mainly the problem has been with gate agents not being able to find our new name in any of the computer systems, but some captains have been refusing jumpseats as well. Our guys are being murdered with jumpseat denials and the level of frustration is growing rapidly.

Special note to FedEx pilots: Since our new IDs do not say Continental on them any more, we have been refused the 75% interline discount on shipping boxes with you guys. Some of our guys have been saying they will deny FedEx jumpseaters until this is changed. I will not deny any myself, just letting you know that a lot our pilots at ExpressJet have felt that the interline discount was the only level of reciprocation enjoyed from FedEx since 9-11, and now with that gone we have no reason to take you guys for free rides. Just giving a heads up. Maybe you guys can contact someone at your interline discount agreements department to head this one off at the pass.

You know BigShot, you are venting and blaming everyone else for the jumpseat problem, and go on to tell us to make changes to our notes and authorizing documents based on what you tell us to do. You the go on and say the agents can't find the change in their computer system, and intimate that it is their fault that they don't know something has changed. Did you ever stop to think that your own company(or union) dropped the ball on this one and hasn't made the required notifications to get the changes done? Sounds like you haven't been around in this industry very long to understand the proper channels that have to be adhered to for this sort of change in policy. Maybe you should check with the TSA to see how they would view accepting someone that isn't on an approved list.

Food for thought.

Same thing happened when Aloha Island Air became Island Air. Continual denials, no FedEx shipping discount, etc. Not much the other companies can do for you until your company gets the paperwork done to have the agreements again.

BigShot-

Do what you feel you need to do as far as jumpseats go at COEX. Slighting the pilots for something they have NO control over is your own will. The FedEx pilots, and ALPA, have been begging and pleading with management to get offline jumpseating reinstated but since we are in contract negoitations with Fred he is the one holding it up, NOT THE PILOTS. As far as the shipping discount goes I am sure it will be back in effect once the lists are updated and people realize you have gone through a name change.

But if it will put a smile on your face and give you some pleasure, deny the jumpseat. Me, I believe in karma...what goes around...well...you know the rest.

Absent professionalism, I guess you're right. The only reason to offer a jumpseat to a FedEx pilot is the 75% shipping discount.

I'm trying to decide if I should take time out of my schedule to hang out at the World Service Center and try to persuade the CSA's (you know, the FedEx Employees that actually give you the discount) to harass ExpressJet pilots.

Seriously, though, you should talk to your Jumpseat Committee.

Who do I complain to that I don't get the same interline travel perks that ExpressJet pilots get? They get the same FedEx shipping discount that I get, shouldn't I get the same travel benefits they get? Should I advocate denying jumpseats until then?

This mess actually started with TSA mandating we have our comany name and not "Continental" on the ID. Not venting at all. I know my company screwed the pooch on this one, our union was not at fault in any way. I just posted some information to have it out there, and to forewarn pilots from different airlines that you may be met by an extremely unhappy captain when you ask for a jumpseat on ExpressJet, and so you know why you had to find a different way home. Like I said, I do not deny jumpseats, ever. Unless there is the odd case of an extremely rude offline guy. I simply want to let it be known that there is SOMETHING that some of our guys are pissed at, and there may be instances of denials until this situation gets fixed. I will do everthing I can to spread the word to NOT start a jumpseat war. Just asking that you spread the word that our IDs have a name change. That's all.

I think some folks have taken the original post a little out of context. The basic jist is this: our company changed our IDs and we would appreciate everyone's help during the transition.

ExpressJet Airlines = Continental Express = COEX = CALEX = XJT

(did I forget any?)

Frats,
