Northwest workers to don Delta garb

Merger will bring few changes to uniforms

By Kelly Yamanouchi
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tuesday, October 28, 2008
If the proposed merger is approved, Delta Air Lines plans to shift Northwest Airlines pilots, customer service employees and flight attendants to Delta uniforms on March 30. Delta’s proposed merger with Northwest has received shareholder approval and is awaiting clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice, which Delta expects by the end of this year.
Delta and Northwest pilots will both get newly-designed hat brass and wings for their uniforms with a two-tone red triangular Delta “widget” logo. The rest of the uniform will remain essentially the same. The company decided to stick with the Delta uniform instead of designing a new one to save time and money and to speed the transition.

Delta is eager for Northwest to take on the Delta brand quickly to show customers a consistent image of “what Delta looks like and what Delta feels like,” said Delta spokesman Kent Landers. Uniforms are “all part of the Delta brand. It’s as important as the paint on the airplanes and the signage at the airports.”
Richard Tyler, who designed the Delta flight attendant uniforms, met with Northwest flight attendants in Detroit last week.
Northwest flight attendants look forward to the change, said Rene Foss, a spokeswoman for the Association of Flight Attendants, which represents Northwest flight attendants. While Delta, whose attendants are not unionized, has worked with the Northwest union on the shift to the new uniforms, “it’s a little bit different from what we’re used to” under a union contract, Foss said.
“In the past when we’ve moved to a new uniform, we’ve been able to have a very direct voice” in uniform design, Foss said. That’s “somewhat different from [Delta] saying, ‘Here’s what we designed.’”

And, when we fly to Paris, we ALWAYS wear our hats backwards, like barets, and it looks FANTASTIC.... Can't wait to see you guys look like Russian U-boat Commanders, like us. Good times.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Yes, they will be once we get all the SLI stuff behind us. Here's to hoping it's something that pisses us all off equally :)

I have heard a few NWA flight attendants talk about how the Delta uniform is hands down better than ours. I guess it's more comfortable and looks better. I wish I could say the same about the pilots. I am happy to see the leather jacket go. I have never been a fan of that, but I am not looking forward to the double-breasted jacket, hat, name tag, or wings on my shirt.

Just remember, they require 15 pieces of flair, but really want you to wear more to "express yourself".

LOL....

NWA guys, my thoughts are prayers are with you. Maybe years with a shrink can help you overcome your new gay uniforms.

New Look?

My DAL uniform arrived via UPS yesterday. My wife said, "that is the ugliest hat I've ever seen. Looks like someone strapped a gold "disco belt" across the front." I'm not digging the Navy look either. Oh well, whatever it takes. Ready to assimilate. Just call me commodore.;)

I got mine also, I thought it looked sharp(the uniform). Don't worry about the hat, your head will grow into it...:smash: (just kidding).

The Russians had U-boats????

and for the record, the Germans didn't wear double breasted coats.

Great Tanker Clown,
When you re-apply you can get in touch with your true inner feelings!

he just loves his patch that says "NKAWTG"

(Nobody kicks *ss without tanker gas")

But his new one, he is soon to wear will say "NKAWTPPPS"

(Nobody kicks $ss without tanker pilots powerpoint slides)

Gotta disagree with you there. My grandfather's pinks and greens looked sharp. Air Force uniforms have only looked like ******************** since about 1950. They were fine until the Air force got to make its own decisions and switched to 'busdriver blue.'
