Looks like Northwest has finally decided to raise the fares. Wouldn't it be funny if the rest of the legacies gave them a taste of their own medicine and act as spoilers to the deal.

In all seriousness, I hope this fare increase sticks. The American public is getting too used to these ultra low fares - and still has the gaul to complain about them (I actually heard a woman complain to her seatmate on a recent transcon, that she had to pay "an outrageous amount, something like $270 for the roundtrip")

That is good news. Cant believe that we sell stuff at below cost! Hopefully we will all follow suit to recover the increased cost of gas.

Just got to remember that $270 is alot of money for travel when before all you could do is ride Greyhound!!

Can you give the address for the article or copy and paste the release on the BB.

Thanks

Sorry Mr. Seagull, but if oil stays where it is, then southwest will have to raise their fares too, or be in the same position as everyone else. Not much longer 'til that hedging runs out.

Northwest Hikes Long-Haul Fares $10 a Way

Northwest Airlines Hikes Long-Haul Fares $10 Each Way, Short-Haul Fares $5 Each Way

NEW YORK (AP) -- Northwest Airlines Corp. Thursday raised ticket prices on flights in the United States and Canada as the spring travel season approaches.
Kurt Ebenhoch, a spokesman for the Eagan, Minn., carrier, said it boosted fares for routes shorter than 1,000 miles by $5 each way.

For longer routes, the airline increased fares $10 each way, he said.

The fare increases are for all markets in the United States and Canada and all fare classes.

"We are coming into a historically strong travel period," Ebenhoch said, which prompted the fare increases. Further, he said, the higher fares will offset some higher fuel costs.

Again Siegull does not work nor I hope ever represent the attitude of us a SWA. I wish we could find out who this douche is so we can black ball him. It is bs that he uses the swa avatar though. I know one interviewer that is working on his identity though because of his idiotic non swa comments.

Sea-Rat is an idiot and anyone who even listens to "her" or responds to anything she says just leads to more stupid, un-educated drivel that "she" has to say.......we know you are a fake.....go fuk off!!!!!!

Geez, a whopping $5 on the shorties, $10 on transcon. . . . time for all of the airlines to get some testicular fortitude and start charging enough to cover costs- what a concept.

Let's hope that $5 or $10 bucks is just a start.

I'm sorry.

I changed my AVATAR.

I'll try to be nicer.

I was just kidding.

I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

In 1984, my family paid 249 bucks for a roundtrip ticket from LAX-IAD on TWA. Today, the price is almost similar!

Come on dude, have some ball$ - either stick with being a SWA wannabee and bagging on everyone, or just crawl away and go anonymous.

BTW, you've already dug your hole. I know someone on their interview board, and your "name" has been mentioned...I'm sure they're close to getting your IP address and blackballing you.

Sun Country Airlines Supports Northwest Airlines Fare Increase
Friday February 25, 8:15 pm ET

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2005--Following Northwest Airlines' lead, St. Paul-based Sun Country Airlines announced a fare increase as a result of continually rising fuel costs.

"Fuel prices have been on the rise for some time," said Deb Phelps, Senior Director of Revenue Management. "Last year, on a round trip fare to Las Vegas, the first $35 of each ticket sold covered fuel costs. Today, the per ticket fuel cost is $75 to $80 for the same flight."

While year-over-year fuel costs have risen 35%, fares have remained at relatively low levels. Sun Country is increasing fares $5-$10 each way in most markets, which will compensate for a small portion of the rise in fuel rates to $52/barrel.

"Sun Country will continue to offer our customers the best possible customer service and flying experience. We know our customers will continue to see Sun Country as a value based travel decision," said Phelps. Sun Country Airlines is a low cost, low fare carrier based in St. Paul, MN. Sun Country, a privately held company, is following a conservative growth plan which will increase the frequency to its popular destinations such as Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Ft. Meyers, Denver and Las Vegas. For a complete list of destinations and more information, please visit Sun Country's website at suncountry.com.

It's about time...maybe we could look across the tarmac and learn a little from our brothers and sisters at UPS, FedEx and DHL....Naaaah, we're not that smart.

Note to EVERYONE on the forum: Don't have an opinion unless it's approved by Falcon Jet 1. Otherwise he'll threaten to screw up your REAL life.

Myabe he can't distinguish between Flightinfo and reality, but when you start threatining to screw up someone's job search, you're crossing the line.

Look, there's alot of attitude everywhere. Unlike FJ1, at least I keep my language in check!

OK, tell me EXACTLY how ANYTHING I've posted is more offensive than the language tailhookah uses. Anyone???

And he/she says I use uneducated drivel. Changing the spelling of swear words to get them past the moderator. Wow! You ARE a genious! I'm truly not able to compete against the depths of your intelligence.

DS....Just stop, don't defend yourself, your only digging deeper. Learn when to say when and next time be careful what you say on these forums. Especially if your looking for a job, the airline industry is way to small to burn bridges. BTW...SWA will have to raise prices just like everyone else, $5-10 is a start, but lets hope for more than that, so the furloughed guys can get their jobs back and everyone else can get the pay back to where it was before 9/11.
