Northwest Announces New Service Between Flint and Las Vegas
Thursday July 14, 11:49 am ET New nonstop flight to start Aug. 20

MINNEAPOLIS, July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC - News) today announced new service between Flint, Mich. and Las Vegas beginning Aug. 20.

The new service will be operated with the Airbus A319 aircraft, featuring the widest cabin in its class, with 16 seats in first class and 108 seats in coach class.

"We are pleased to offer new, nonstop service between Flint, our third- largest Michigan market, and Las Vegas," said Tom Bach, vice president of network planning & revenue management. "Northwest has been a key service provider to Flint for many years, and this new Las Vegas service builds upon our existing flights from Flint to four other cities."

Through its subsidiary NWA WorldVacations, Northwest offers affordable, customized vacation packages in Las Vegas, including airfare, more than 35 hotel properties, rental cars, and optional activities such as concert and event tickets, sightseeing tours, golf and spa services.

"From world-class dining and nightlife to the year's top concerts and events, there's something for everyone in Las Vegas," said Jim Cron, vice president-passenger marketing and sales and CEO of WorldVacations. "WorldVacations offers a wide selection of hotels and activities to enhance the experience."

Northwest offers more daily departures (up to 11) and carries more passengers from Flint than any other airline. The new service to Las Vegas will complement the seven daily flights Northwest currently offers between Flint and its Detroit hub, and the two daily flights between Flint and the carrier's Minneapolis/St. Paul hub. Northwest also provides seasonal daily service from Flint to both Orlando, Fla., and Tampa, Fla., from Dec. 15 to April 30, and weekly Saturday service to those cities the rest of the year.

"Northwest Airlines' new nonstop service between Flint and Las Vegas will bring valuable economic benefits to Genesee County and surrounding communities," Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-Mich.) said. "The expansion of nonstop service to and from Las Vegas, one of America's fastest growing metropolitan areas, is a tremendous sign of growth for Flint and Bishop Airport, and is critical to the region's economic development."

Customers holding tickets for travel Aug. 20 and beyond on connecting itineraries from Flint to Las Vegas will be able to change their itineraries to one day earlier or one day later than they are currently booked and switch to Northwest's new nonstop service without paying an administrative change fee, provided they meet fare requirements and make all changes by Aug. 13.

Northwest will soon copy UAL in Bankruptcy too. Oh, also with the pension freeze.

I do not understand why the NWA management is soo high strung on pissing off all their employee groups? Why cant they copy SWA/Jblue in the way they treat their employees and customers?

Have you ever tried to talk to or ask a question to a NWA customer service rep? Man, it is ugly! What happened to customer service? Management treats their employees like sh!t, the employees treat the customer like sh!t! Good work Wilson! Good work Steenland, you puppet!

And of course, Air Tran is copying NW by flying out of several cities in IND. What's the big big deal...

BTW, you can diss on NW's agents as much as you want, but I don't see a lot that sparkles on the C in ATL, either.

UAL lost the pension. NWA will probably freeze theirs. Big difference. Actually, since 9/11 and/or before, the NWA management team has done one of the better jobs around acknowledged by most industry observers. The industry is always driven by the weakest link. UAL 3 years in CH-11 (Lawyers get rich) USAiR CH-11 X2, Delta with the cap on fares (BRILLIANT- NOT) and high oil prices. Even all of Continentals CH-11's hurt a somewhat healthy industry at the time. And to compare any worldwide carrier with a small low-cost carrier operation and the HUGE differences in costs is another story. The majors have done an excellent job of cutting cost especially for offering so much more.

Northwest Shares Still Tumbling

Northwest Airlines' shares have lost close to one third of their value in recent weeks on growing concern that the carrier is heading for a bankruptcy filing, analysts said on Wednesday.

The stock has declined some 28 percent since a recent peak on June 7, compared with an 8 percent decline in the Amex Airline index during the same period. Northwest shares have slumped nearly 60 percent this year.

JP Morgan analyst Jamie Baker echoed the bankruptcy prediction on Wednesday, saying in testimony before a US Senate subcommittee that he thought Northwest had about a 60 percent chance of filing for bankruptcy over the next year.

Yeah, but the article failed to mention that he was only 30% sure of that.
