Northwest Airlines pulls pretzels from domestic flights

For what passengers pay for tickets these days, they shouldn't even get drinks, IMO. Screw them....you get what you pay for.

A coke and pack of pretzels will cost you about $4.00 in the airport, why not charge pax for both? If they don't like it, so be it--Greyhound doesn't give free food, why should NWA?

I read last night it will save $2 million a year. Another example of how service is being adjusted to what people will pay for a ticket. Can't have it both ways. And it seems the less they pay the more they complain.

As a fare paying passenger on NW, here's my take on the current situation:

1) Inflight entertainment: I don't like watching the same edited movies all in the same month. I bring my own DVD player and my own movies.

2) Pillows/blankets: Don't make a difference to me. When I need to sleep on a plane, I bring my own "real" pillow. It actually fits in my backpack and consitutes my "personal item."

3) Inflight food: Sure, getting a meal is nice. DL has had some Food for Purchase options that I've actually liked, but either BOB, or Buy in the Airport, I'll pay a few bucks for a choice of decent meals.

4) Spinzels: This whole situation makes me laugh. Get rid of them if you need to save a few bucks.

In this current fare climate, if this is what NW needs to do to continue to offer competitive (cheap) fares, fine. My paycheck hasn't exactly increased in proportion with the cost of a barrel of fuel. I also work in aviation, and therefore am not made of money. If an airline wants my money, they have to offer me a product I can afford. That product is transportation.

I flew NW first class last week and it was LAME. I didn't have enough legroom to even cross my legs without having to be a contortionist. The food was a horrible, cold sandwich on a 3.5 hour flight.
In this case I WAS paying more and getting considerably less. I'll be avoiding NWA for domestic first class henceforth. What are they thinking?

You do realize that most of the occupants of NW F are free upgrades, right? I wouldn't pay for NW F either, but I wouldn't pay for domestic F on UA either (those are the only two airlines where I've sampled the F product). UA F was not bad a couple of years ago, and I can't say how things have been.

At AirTran, our F/A's already provide more cabin service on short flights than DAL, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised . . . . . Now AirTran's inflight service will be better than NWA's, too (shudder).

Try it yourself- ride on DAL from ATL to any city less than an hour away, and you'll see AirTran F/A's doing full service, while some DAL F/A's are doing "FAst Break Service" followed by crossword puzzles.

As long as there are so many people willing to fly airplanes for such little compensation and airlines are allowed to operate in bankruptcy for years, you will see airlines doing anything to save $$$. Even if it seems a little too much. Although this pretzel thing is worth a millioin $$ or so I'll guess.. I just show up a little early and raid the crew meal trays and take the potato chips on each setup . Survivor mode....
