The bad press alone will more than cost the supposed 'savings'!

Yet another example of how clueless and panicky airline management is becoming. Good luck to the NWA brethren.

Couldn't have said it any better.

Just like the bad press the boking fees produced? NWA flights are fuller than ever! They haven't driven people away with that and are unlikely to do so with this. They're replacing an awful .5 oz pretzel bag with the option for a better product. You just gotta pay for it.

People don't complain about the extras one has to pay for in other industires? Why should the airlines be any different?

Hell, without pretzels, what's the crew to eat?

People in general are not willing to PAY enough for domestic airtravel. They are however, willing to pay for international service... and that's where NWA is spending their money. They aren't cutting there... but making their product better. That's where the $$$ is. NWA still offers free booze on their entire international network... unlike the rest.

It's pretty simple to rationalize if you think about it - NWA needs to do away with the pretzels so that they can afford their new fleet of 787s... Makes perfect sense.

Spinzels sucked anyway.....

I agree- no great loss there.

Every airline has gotten pretty good at stepping over a dollar for a dime. You can't pull perks for the passengers without risking it being the final straw that sends them to a competitor. Airlines should offer high-quality snacks on every flight, and the passengers won't care about a couple extra bucks that they paid for the ticket.

Ohhhh! THAT's why nwa has been losing money! I was wondering why. Now everything should be back to normal. They should be hiring soon.

I though they were getting new Airbus piles of crap?

But what becomes of the pretzel procurement division? Probably a senior vp with several managers and many underlings who are responsible for these fine products.

And will the management team that thought this up receive a bonus that equals twice the savings for their "thinking outside the box" ideas?

I liked them too...

As long as there are so many people willing to fly airplanes for such little compensation and airlines are allowed to operate in bankruptcy for years, you will see airlines doing anything to save $$$. Even if it seems a little too much. Although this pretzel thing is worth a millioin $$ or so I'll guess.. I just show up a little early and raid the crew meal trays and take the potato chips on each setup :-). Survivor mode....
