Nonrev/JS Question for Delta?

I have noticed this year that a jumpseater is always processed in Y class then F class depending on availability, whereas nonrevs are F then Y. Thus when the cabin is wide open a jumpseater will always be assigned a seat in coach even if first class is empty or filled with S4 buddy passes etc..

Please do not interpret this question as a complaint because I am extremely grateful for any seat regardless of which cabin, but does any DL guy know why this processing order changed?
 
I see two reasons:

1. Non-reving is a benefit (at least that's what they tell us); Jumpseating is a privilege.

2. Delta doesn't want to give any appearance of giving pilots any preferential treatment since we're the only union on the property. It usually means we get the worst of it.
 
When you board the plane. Interoduce yourself to the FA that greets you, and ask to say hello to the pilots. By then, the FA will realize you are a jumpseater, and may offer you a first class seat if one is available.

Not trying to split hairs with you here, but if you're jumpseating, even though you have a seat assignment, you should still go up and "request" the jumpseat/ask the captain...

I think that's what I was saying. It's always nice to tell the FA that you'd like to say hello to the pilots. The one time you make an entrance to the front without informing them what you're doing, you'll probably get attacked by an overzealous FA who thinks you're trying to take over the plane.

Nothing worse than a beatdown by a FA infront of the first class cabin.
 
I ALWAYS introduce myself to all the pilots and the FAs. I am only talking about how the system defaults to assigning jumpseaters seats in Y class.
