I don't know if it's official yet, but it's my understanding that the FAA is going to eliminate the term "Pilot-Not-Flying" (PNF) from its lexicon. Apparently, it sends the wrong message about responsibility in the cockpit. After all, if a pilot isn't flying, he might be sleeping, reading a magazine, etc.
Therefore, from now on, the pilot who is not the "Pilot Flying" (PF) will be referred to as the [drumroll] "Pilot Monitoring" (PM)!
Don't you all feel much safer? This reminds me of ALPA changing "Regional Jet" to "Small Jet." Doesn't the FAA have anything more important to focus on?
