I think the conversion is like take anything you flew in the military, times it by anything you want to make it be whatever you need it to be. I've seen people who flew crap in the military make it into LUV with less than 2000 hours. Can't argue too much about the favortism with that happening.
Not neccessarily true. Although I have seen a few Navy buds who applied and were called almost immediately, I have heard nothing and continue to wait by the phone:

Applied: Oct 2002
737 Type: April 2003
Total Time: 3180
Jet/Turboprop: 2610
Turbine PIC: 1650

Took a job at Eagle in the meantime. There are a few others there as well who have more time than I do and a 737-type. The job doesn't pay well (understatement of the year) but it keeps me flying and building Part-121 time while I patiently wait for the phone to ring.

No LUV

All hail the Rhino. I'm not getting any LUV either, but am keeping the faith. A positive attitude goes along way and our time will come. I don't think the 737 type is the "Kiss of Death" as my four hooved friend quoted. In interviews I make it work for me...i.e. great experience and I needed a $7500 tax write off for last year...haha. Also, as a furloughed American Airlines driver, most folks think the 737 is what I flew over there and it's a non-issue. The bottom line is if SWA is your destination, at some point or another, you're going to have to get the type. Did mine at Higher Power and can't say enough about those folks.

Best regards to all and see ya at Lehina's.

Rhino

I know how frustrating it is for everyone out there nowadays!

I was once on the outside looking in and really enjoy being here at SWA.

As far as SWA being slanted towards military guys, I have not seen it yet. I have flown with a bunch of varied background guys and gals. When I interviewed, the mix of interviewees was from all backgrounds. And when I went to class it was 13 civi and 11 military. So, I believe SWA does make a an effort to keep the pilot group a perfect mix of backgrounds.

I will say one thing I have learned while flying here. The people department really does one helluva job when selecting their employees. Whether it's flight attendants, ops agents, csr's, or pilots. Everyone has a great attitude and seems to really care about the customers. I have not met one pilot with a bitter attitude yet. I know I will, however. It's really refreshing coming to work here. I fell truly blessed to be here.

AS for Rhino man, after spending some time with you and the boys at Lahuna's in Mission Beach, I know you would be a perfect fit at SWA. Keep the Faith brother!

Good luck to all.

Jim
