I searched around but couldn't find a related thread. Anyone know what happened to upgrade times with the new contract? I heard bypass pay was going away so a bunch of FOs getting captain's pay were going to have to upgrade to keep it. It seems like upgrades for new guys are going to be a lot slower. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks. I suppose I could have used the Search function instead of just poking around in the frac forum!

Upgrade time looking good

Inida,
It's impossible to tell, but it's looking good for upgrade time right now. There were lots (read about 30) captain bid awards from SIC in the last two weeks alone, and the upgrades have moved through about 200 line numbers since early December (not 200 actual people, as there are some gaps there). There is probably a slow-down point somewhere, and there are lots of good opinions in those other threads.

I'd be surprised if upgrades were sooner than 4 or 5 yrs.
I agree with you. That is what I told myself before going to the interview. There are a lot of "Ifs" that need to align in order for upgrades to be less than 3 years. Yea, it would be great, but I am not holding my breath.

HR is stating 2.5 years for Hawker 400 or Ultra. Might be a little optimistic.

Baja.

The date of hire of the person awarded the most recent Captain bid (Hawker 400XP) is 7/22/2002. So upgrades are currently running at 3.5 years. Given that there was at least one year with virtually no hiring during this period, 2.5 years does not seem that unrealistic if hiring continues at the present rate.

My friend upgraded a few months ago and he had only been at the company a year. I don't think that will happen again though

Say you are number 2300. About the current number of pilots on the list now.

Assume 2 captains for every 1 FO.

That puts the junior Captain at 67% down the seniority list which is exactly where the newest Captain award went. (mid 1500's out of 2300.)

#2300 will be at 67% when we have about 3500 pilots on the seniority list.

So all we need to do is hire 1200 more pilots. 1200 pilots at 5 pilots per plane is 240 planes.

So we need 1200 pilots and 240 MORE planes till #2300 upgrades.

I don't think we will get 240 more planes in 2.5 yrs.

Thats 8 aircraft deliveries per MONTH!
