NJA to expand bases?

I heard the same and asked an IBT 1108 executive board trustee, who informed me it wasn't true. Apparently Net Jets is still not having problems hiring.

The hiring isn't the problem. It is the retention that is the issue. People get hired, go through training, get on the line, then 9-10 months into the job realize that commuting to work from wherever they live is a nightmare and they quit. Pooh, there goes a pile of training money and a qualified crew member.

Now will NJA admit their mistake and fix it??? Up for debate, my guess is when the airlines start to recall and hire some and if they age goes to 65 for 121 guys, they will have no choice. When all that will happen is anyone's guess.
 
If you look at the Union's attrition list you'll see that 16 people who were hired in 2006 alone have left. Each and everyone of them with a shinny, new type rating. Many of them were in the Falcon 2000 or the Excel.
 
do they give exit interviews to see why the guys actually left?
 
I can think of 2 reaons why new guys would leave.

Domiciles too restrictive with no way to commute.

F/O pay too low.
 
....and its going to be that way for the next 3+ years.

The boss man isn't going to give us anything he can use as a bargaining chip for the next round of negotiation.
 
Friend of mine just left, why...because he got an airline job in his home town. He even went on to tell me that if he could have commuted out of Chicago he would have stayed with NJA but he had to take the job closer to home for the sake of the family. I understand why.
It's to bad that the company has chosen to operate with this restriction to the pilots. But as we all sit around and say it's worthless and stupid I don't think the financial benefits will be realized until a much larger number of pilots are domiciled.

We can only hope that he told NJs the reason for him to leave is the domicile issue.

I don't know if you fly for NJA or not, or if you do for how long, but the fact of the matter is this. The company is in denial about saving money with this program. It doesn't matter where you are domiciled, you are going to airline to a jet 80-90% of the time. I used to pick a lot of jets up in SFO and the bay area when that was a gateway, but that place isn't even a domicile.

This idea was hatched by the geniues in the company and as with a lot of their ideas it is flawed and is going to cost them money and is bound to fail. This plan is another one of their great ideas and is bound to fail, no matter how many people they put into this system, they will be losing people out of the system.

I can give you a quick list of some of the ideas from the brain trust in CMH that cost them money then failed if you would like???
 
I don't understand why people think they can commute to this job. We had one guy in my class that is trying ATL-PBI. Good luck. If you are looking to work at NetJets do yourself a favor and don't apply unless you live in a Domicile or will move to one. The sooner people start doing that the sooner we might get away from this stupid system.
 
True, but how many newhires are retired. Four or five out of every class. The guys that are coming from the regionals need to understand that you can't commute to this job. Live close enough to your domicile that you can drive to work.
 
I hope that more and more try and then find something local when it doesn't work. If we can get the first year attrition a bit higher they may change- 8% attrition in Europe was enough for a 33% pay raise over there.
 
They still have applications coming in. I don't see change anytime soon.
 
I"m about to leave PBI and make the commute from CLT...Just gonna buy one way tickets the day before and the company will fly you to anywhere on your last day up to the price of the ticket to PBI...Its a financial sacrifice, but very doable...

Ahhh but we had 24 Gateways. I came to work here NOT for the money but for the QOL, including fly from a Gateway.

Today, I would have much more to consider before accepting employemnt here as a newhire.

No, if people move to their domicile and are happy we will NEVER get rid of this stupid Domicile program. If we keep training/typing guys and they leave 12-18 months later, THAT will hurt the company in the pocket. That is the ony way they "learn". No, I like it the way it now. Come to NJA, get the type and leave. Sounds harsh, but I think this will help the pilot group in the long run.

I don't plan on having to because i don't see a new contract being ratified without the same basing system for all, but the answer is, yes I would in order to assure a quality of life for my family that will make them happy.

That was DO-82's point. Would you be willing to continue with the domicile system under a new contract, because to get HBA for all, we're going to have to give up something - i.e., $$$$$$.

Compton and Watts is still affordable, well 3 bedroom/1 bathroom. 1100 sq foot for under $500,000. The schools arent too bad, and it is close to the airport.
 
But, why would anyone move to one of these locations is the real possiblilty of HBA's for will be had during the next round?

After commuting for 7+years before getting an HBA all I can say is that I'm glad I didn't move.
 
I would love to get on with NetJets, but I refuse to commute due to the lack of j/s agreements! Had they still done the "gateway" syatem, my stuff would have been in 6 months ago! Bummer..............

I should of said that if you don't live in a current domicile, are willing to move to one, or live close enough to drive you shouldn't apply. When the pool of pilots dries up then something will have to give ie. the domicile system.
