What's the U-Boat?

FNG question

U-boat is the affectionate (well, usually "affectionate") nickname for the Ultra. The Ultra's successor, the Encore, is sometimes similarly called the E-boat.

LostComm - you're welcome. I hadn't heard those nicknames either until I was on the union message board and I noticed a few guys using those nicknames and sometimes referring to themselves as "U-boat commanders".

I actually told my wife it would be funny to note on our tax return that I'm a U-boat commander. I wonder if an IRS employee would at least get a small laugh out of it.

The U-Boat has the name at least in my book because it reminds me of an old German sub in WWII. Everyone is hot and sweaty bumping into each other with some guy banging on a diesel engine with a wrench.

As far as the headset thing, I'm strongly considering getting the Bose. My David Clarks have been great but I feel weird wearing them in a corporate jet. The U-Boat cockpit really is loud.

I bought a pair of Sennhieser HMEC-25 from CMW aviation. $379 refurbished with full 2 year warranty. 15db active and 11db passive noise reduction and it only wieghs 5.9oz.
