I personally think all sim rides are a waste of time on interviews. We all know an ace can have a crap day in the sim and a Sh## bag can have the best sim ride of his life. If people truly have the type of experience they claim to have when called for these interviews there is no reason to do a sim eval. But thats life.

Perhaps you should conduct some interviews and hire people without doing sim rides. You'll change your mind. The sim ride uncovers much, much more than flying skills.

Basic instrument skills are being looked at but perhaps more importantly, so is the CRM part of the sim ride, as acaTerry is shrewdly hinting at.

Right now, the sim profile is very easy but it's the rest of the experience that the sim evaluators are really watching.
