I think those guys get an automatic PASS on their PC checks for the rest of their careers. dang, I know guys that cant stay on the centerline in no wind.

Have you ever done an autolanding Mr 727/747 man??? From your questons I doubt you would have asked that question if you drive that kind of equipment.

Auto landings are quite smooth but firm, the nose is on the deck with little wasted time as the spoilers and reveres are already being deployed once the mains are planted the the squat switchs are triggered....I have been on several flt decks during this procedure observing...it is really quite cool...

By the way...Big time cudo's to the crew for a great job...
 
After all the negative publicity pilots and the industry in general has received this was nice. Perhaps Leno will layoff the drunk pilot jokes for a few weeks.
 
UAL had exactly the same thing happen at ORD last year, with EXACTLY the same outcome. Ground the wheels off; the plane was sitting on centerline on the NW axel when MX arrived to drag it off the runway. It strangely got no news coverage at all. The culprit was an incorrectly installed NWS actuator. Apparently it isn't keyed very well and can be installed backwards without much effort, and if it is, it tries to command the nosewheel to 180 degrees on gear retraction. The gear obviously stops at its limit, and sticks there.

Anything started with"I Heard" Should always be believed without question
