From another message board - SWA guys, fact or fiction?

[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica]To our Southwest Airline Pilot Candidates:

Thank you for your interest in joining the Southwest Airlines family. We consider your interest in our Company a very special compliment, and we take your career goals seriously. We want to let you know about a change that we are making to our minimum requirements for the First Officer position. We have made the decision to increase our minimum Pilot in Command time in a turbineaircraft from 1000 to 1300 hours.

This change is being made to more honestly reflect our competitive application minimums during this time. We have reviewed our hiring statistics from the last 2 years, and have determined that 1300 PIC hours in a turbine aircraft is the minimum PIC time we are considering for interviews.....

Sorry if this is a repost...

It is true. I recently went to the website to update my application.

During the initial 10 gateway questions that you are asked to get into your file/application is the one asking if you have at least 1300 hours PIC Turbine.

Odd number.....

The ironic thing is I left on an ANG trip with ~~ 1280 PIC a few weeks back and logged another 35 hours on that trip. I returned to find the SWA people Department's letter informing me of the raise in their mins.

I updated the hours but didn't get the immediate call....

Word from an Oakland assistant Chief Pilot at EPT a week ago is this: SWA has listed 1,000 PIC as a minimum for quite some time, however, there has been such a highly qualified group of pilots to choose from that they rarely interview anyone with less than 1,300. Apparently, if you list your hiring minimums at a particular number you've got to (at least occasionally) hire people on the low end of the spectrum or you open yourself up to lawsuits.
