New rules from TSA

We were just told that any crewmember who at the end his/her sequence will now have to walk out of the secure area and walk back in and be screened prior to being allowed/able to commute home.
I am still shaking my head about this one. I do not know how the TSA will know if we did or did not go thru screening again. Just the typical government reaction to a ramper who is not screened to begin with bring guns on a flight.
Has anyone else heard this?

TSA will meet you at the gate at the end of your trip and escort you out of the secure area... wait outside the bathroom while you pee... wait in line while you grab some chow... wait outside the crew-room while you check your mailbox... <grin> you could have some fun with this one.

So if I have anything that I am not supposed to bring on the airplane I will leave it behind in the crew lounge in the secured area, go get screened, and then come back into the secured are and pick up my stuff. Another intelligent move by the TSA.

Every week I am amazed at the stupidity of the TSA. If they spent as much time and effort looking for the real terrorist as they do trying to fu*k with flight crews the skies would be safe.

This is exactly the wrong direction to be going in.

They should have a crew manifest at the checkpoint. Check your ID, let you through. You are on your way to the cockpit anyway . . . . what the hell difference does it make.

Sounds like it's time for ALPA, CAPA and the rest to file a class action lawsuit against the TSA and force them to pull their heads out of their asses and institute some common sense procedures that lighten their workload (and ours) by not having to completely screen crew members that are already going to be sitting in the cockpit anyway.

Never fear, it's against the policy to leave any personal objects in the secure area while you report for mandatory post-flight screening. You see, this way if they find something, they can prosecute you for having brought it into the sterile area, a much greater offense than just attempting to bring it in...

Honestly, this has got to be the greatest load of CRAP to ever come out of TSA...face it, they hate pilots!

While FEDEX requires this of all their pilots when they finish a pairing and deadhead home, I don't see how the TSA could ever hope to accomplish this at each and every passenger airport in the US. Simply not enough screeners. Any proof for this rumor?

There is a Security Directive out there. It's true.

It's all about TSA job security. Just think, all of those Thousands Standing Around now have some fresh meat. This will increase traffic through the checkpoints by at least 25%. More TSA jobs, more TSA promitions!

From what I have seen it is a return to random screening at the gate again. I have not seen anything referencing a requirement to be re screened once behind the sterile area, (i.e. commuting crew members). It also includes cabin inspections concentrating on the lavatories especially. This will not occur on through flights with passengers still on board.
There is a chance a commuting crew member may be selected at the gate for additional screening. I am not sure if CASS has any baring on this, as I remember commuting off line resulted in being a "selectee" in years gone by. I will try to clarify.

I will make sure when I have to go through screening I have lots of change which hopefully I will not drop all over the floor and have to take my time to pick it up, always forget to remove my laptop, make sure I request a screening out of public view, and whatever else I can come up with that will make the TSAs job harder.

Every pilot in uniform that gets harrassed by this new directive should immediately insist on seeing a TSA supervisor. Insist that the guy checking you could be anyone and you want to verify his credentials before he's allowed to check you. Afterall, he's in a uniform with an I.D. and so are you. Who checked him??? This B.S. has got to stop. The C.A.S.S. system is pretty fool proof and the TSA knows it, yet they continue to harrass us with their G.E.D. militia.:angryfire

Happened in DEN

I was commuting home thru DEN on Mon. Went thru screening with STBY ticket. Went to the first flight, which was full. Went to next flight, different airline, and the gate agent put me on stby for the flight and then she said she had to call TSA. I was kinda confused why she was calling. I told her I was jumpseating and that I went thru screening, attempted to jump on another airline and that I had a stby ticket from the previous airline. She called back to TSA and told them that I was already screened.

Let them come out...we should all do this and make TSA come to the gate to individually screen each and every employee riding in back...talk about a colossal cluster!

Interesting idea.............I wonder if ALPA, APA, and other unions could be brought on board with this idea. Not just for the rumor in this post but sort of a civil disobedience against the TSA for screening the folks for tweezers that have the flight controls in their hands.

It's time. If we as an industry don't stand together and put an end to this stupid abuse by our government, it will never end.
