New (Older) Pilots staying w/ Regionals

If you can score a good regional like ACA used to be, you'd do pretty well. I flew with tons of lifers there that were quite happy, at least in the '98-99 time frame. Right now I think the surviving regionals will be Skywest and Republic (are they still even a regional, or a major by now?)
 
If you are finishing college while interviewing, would that help at all? Is it just the airlines that require a degree, primarily? What about freight cos. both stateside and overseas? Some of the foreign upstart cos?
