I believe the kids can use the benefit all the way up until their 26th birthday? That being said, I used my two children's 26th birthday as the date the benefit terminates. Your wife can use it up until 15 years after you retire. I can retire 1 August of 2010, so for my wife, I used 1 August of 2025.
