New flight school at ISP

So far they have 3 172's with a few sr22 on the way.

I wonder how they're planning on dealing with the winter flying up here. Those SR22's have deicing equipment, but does anyone know it's enough to allow for flight training in icing conditions? Anyone know where they got this information from:

"The Regional carriers are hiring and over 30% percent of current airline pilots will retire in the next 3-5 years."

I know a little about these guys, and I hear they are really giving the BIG school on ISP some fair and deserved competition.

I used to work at the BIG school there, and believe that having some options there at ISP is long overdue.

Knowing what I know about the people who started Heritage, I am sure you'll get the best possible flight training at the best value. I'd look into this place if you're trying to decide where to begin or continue training on Long Island.

When you guys refer to the "big" school, what are you refering to? As far as I'm aware, there are several flight training options on the south side of the field: Mid-Island and Am Flyers.

Do they plan on competing with these operators on price? How many 172s does Heritage currently have? How old are the planes?

Also the Heritage Chief Pilot is trouble ask him about "Satan's Chariot"

The guy who runs this school, used to be the director/owner of american flyers flight school. he is a coniving sexual harrassing biggot. all he would like to do is punish and undercut american flyers for canning him. all of the employee's of HFA are the old AF ISP instructors, chief pilot, mechanics, and DO. The president of HFA cares nothing about you, only your money. He thinks, he knows about aviation, and is completely ingnorant. Keep your money away..

Easy there BOGEY, I personally know the boss from the "Big" school as well and I think you must be bitter about something. My opinion of him is much different. He was a great boss. He was pretty outspoken and maybe one of the funniest people i've ever met. But if he's really going for this I have no doubt he will do a great job, for the student, the school, the employees, and himself. He is not what you make him out to be. On another note, Yes, AF did pay pretty poorly. About 14-15hr if I can remember. Oh the good old days... I dont know what the new place is going to pay but It sounds like a cool deal. Id try it out if I wasn't a regional slut and had money....

well that maybe the show he put on for you at your location. i worked at a different AF location. in my opinion all he did was belittle us, and incouraged us to read to the student word for word from the "bible" the AF manual. He tried to show of his knowledge base and proved ignorant. I personally know that he harrassed more than one director and more than one front desk girl. he was a cool guy to go drink with. that is about it. moreover, full time AF instructors are put on salary now, which is more than first year regional pay. I am still affliated with the company and a 135 carrier. Moreover, it is said that he stole the physical master from ISP to steal all of their students (that however, is just rumor.) all else is my personal expirience of dealing with him for one year.

Yeh, I dont know the details of this new deal, or many details about his personal life, I was just sayin I thought he was a good guy. I have been far removed from GA and flight instruction for about a year and a half now.

For the guys here who seem familiar with ops at ISP, did anyone know a guy named "Andy B." - he might have worked at mid-island and than worked at some school at FRG? Crazy guy.

Bogey it is not a good idea to come online and talk bad about someone like that. The aviation industry is to small to be talking bad about people. Let me guess you worked at MMU? I have know him for 5 years and he is not what you say he is. Not to mention he has not worked for AF for about 9 months and had no intentions on starting his own school untill he realized how bad AF was. You really should get all the facts about things before you go and run your mouth. Ask anyone of the instructors, staff or students at ISP and you wouldn't here anything except positive things about him. The students must love him and the new prices b/c from what I here AF at ISP lost alot of students to them and it is not b/c they stole the master.

If I were going to make such claims (accusing someone of sexual harassment is considered libelous), and I wanted to be taken seriously, I certainly would not use a public forum to do so. Dangerous. Even when you believe you post "anonymously." Accusing them of THEFT is no better - unless you have some kind of proof.

Having said that, I also worked with this individual, and he is definitely ambitious and effective at what he sets out to do. That's nothing more than a recipe for success, no? I prefer to work with that kind of individual - they get the job done.

And, if what I have recently heard about the raw deal he got from the BIG school is true, then I certainly will never recommend it to another prospective student again. I will, however, recommend Heritage.

Again, I worked for and respected the BIG school. If they have resorted to the kind of business dealings I've recently heard about, then I have lost all respect.

If you are talking about the big school being AF, then you are seriously mis informed, I was salary there as a line instructor and made about 10K more then what my first year at Eagle is paying me.

As far as this new flight school goes I personally knew S.P. and he is a great guy, be careful there bogey, calling names if they are not true i.e. no proof can get you into a lot of trouble on the net, it is not as annoymous as you may think.

Cirrus Aircraft are not certified for known icing.

Several pilots have died proving this point.

I was looking into CFI work with them at ISP a few years ago and recall the hourly wage being somewhere around $10-12 dollars. I'm pretty sure about that too.

They changed it two years ago, I just quit last month, and the pay for the CFIs after being there one year is 3K per month, two weeks paid vacation, holidays off, and a five day a week work week, and medical benefits reimbursed up to 100 dollars per month, 25 dollars an hour overtime for any days worked over eight hours, or for any amount of time worked over 173 hours per month. As far as instructing goes it is by far and away the best place to work. And I am not pretty sure about that, I know it is right. Like I said, left one of the cicago schools OCT 1st.

That sounds a little better. Glad they increased pay/benefits.

In general though, it's disgusting that CFI's see so little of the share. Students getting charged upwards of 50 an hour for instruction and most CFI's see maybe $15-18 of it at most places.
