I forgot the other thing he heard was that the bid is delayed until early-mid March. Thoughts?
What about all these rumors that new hire training is supposed to start again in April? That would seem unlikely if the MOAB wasn't even released until the middle of March. Anyone else heard about the bid being delayed?

Sorry DJD, didn't mean it as a spear at ya...just some (mild attempt at) humor.

I figure that if Albie can remember PTAPTP then so can us other 'slow' folks...

If there's a choice - no one should have to "pay their dues" or go through the "hazing" on the 727 panel.

This is not your daddy's FedEx anymore.....

Sandman and I have our differences....but in this I completely agree. I see little value gained other than perhaps a good dose of humility in starting as a FE.

Meet & Greet Ramifications?

What's the latest rumor on meet & greets? Are they still on hold due to the hiring of MD-11 qualified folks?

I heard they were put on hold late last summer, but have seen posts from several folks suggesting that some have been meeting with ACPs sporadically.

News?

I'd love to know the answer to that question as well. The last time I went in (a couple of weeks ago) to try to give a resume to my ACP they said that they wouldn't accept it because they were too backlogged. Meanwhile I saw a guy wandering around in a suit and tie with an obvious sponsor for what certainly appeared to be a meet and greet.

I was told that an FCIF would be forthcoming when the meet and greets resumed. So at least as far as my ACP was concerned they aren't doing them right now. I'll bet that some of the others might be on a case by case basis.

I was told the same thing last week. Wait for the FCIF.

There is/are new ACPs that are getting up to speed with meet and greets. I know first hand that they are doing a few. I had a buddy do one last month. I was just showing him the AOC and ran into someone I know and they hooked us up and he did his meet and greet that day spur of the moment. That was a month ago so it might be shut down again.

Did my meet-n-greet back in May 05. Although I got by-passed, is there any way to do the meet-n-greet again in the future? I have 5 rec letters and around 8000 hrs in the feeders. Any advice at this point would go a long way.

Thanks-

What do you mean 'by-passed'? Did you interview or you are still waiting for the call?

You can reapply after one year and Yes you have to do the M&G again. Have one of your Rec's (preferably the most senior) check on your status with HR.

Bye-passed, as in never got called in for an interview. Also, how do you re-apply when the application is online? I've had my application in with FedEx for around 7 years now and it's the only place I have ever wanted to fly. At this point I have only two options, keep working on an interview or go for total world domination. I'm not sure, but the total world domination dream is looking a little more realistic than an interview at this point. Besides, all I lack for total world control is some Kryptonite and some paper clips.......and I know were to find good quality Kryptonite.

XJ has your sponsor contacted the ACP you did the meet and greet with and asked what the deal is? I think it can take a long time to get an interview. The ACP may have 80 or 90 guys in his list and every few weeks JL tells them to bring in their top 5 or 7 guys. So if you are number 80 it can take awhile to get called, but bottom line you sponsor should call the ACP and bug him until he gets an answer one way or the other about you status. IMHO Squeeky wheel rule.

I'm just getting the ball rolling on my whole FedEx process, so I am not 100% sure on how everything works.

I know that the meet and greets are set up to make contact with your sponsor's ACP, but how does it work if your sponsor IS an ACP? Who would I meet and greet in that case?

Also, for anyone interested, my sponsor just informed me that the meet and greet are indeed currently suspended, but he doesn't intend for that to last very long (possibly April).

Good luck to all and I hope to be Purple Tailin' soon!!

How does that WORK?? How 'bout: "like a champ." Get your ducks in a row and don't sweat too much about an interview...I like your chances.

uh, I don't know how this engine works, but I know the guy that does all of the work on it...Could a complete stranger please fill me in?

Deliver a case of your sponsors favorite beverage and you should be interviewing soon. There are guys in suits dark suits here every week.

2nd year pay is great. No doubt. But you haven't answered my question. I was asking from a training standpoint.

FedEx has the ability to attract highly qualified candidates. The job is viewed as one of the best in the industry. No doubt they could get a steam gauge turboprop pilot through training however if their stack of resumes of guys with heavy glass time is huge why would they expand the hiring pool? Same thing has happened over at World. They used to hire turboprop captains but now it's pretty much just guys with glass jet time or at least some heavy jet time. At some of the supplemental carriers you mentioned the job is not perceived to be as desirable as FedEx so the pool of applicants is expanded somewhat to include pilots that might not be considered by FedEx. Guys leave the supplemental carriers to go to FedEx but the reverse seldom if ever happens. It's all a matter of supply and demand.

and this is based on your perspective from inside, maybe the training department? Or as a FedEx line pilot?

besides military C-17 drivers, where is FedEx getting stacks of resumes with "heavy glass time?" Other furloughed airline pilots? I thought those guys were "banned" from FedEx, or did that change this week?

what is next weeks rumor?

Dont know about next week, but heard that we will be hiring currently employed major airline pilots now with a preference for those with heavy/international experience.... Grip n grins to start soon... FWIW from the crew bus...

That and six bucks will buy a coffee at starbucks...

If the training department doesn't think they can train CRJ guys, or pointy nose guys, or whomever to fly heavy international then they need to get over themselves.

While I'm fine with hiring guys from other majors(got friends who want to jump ship, but can't), this should not bring about a philosophical change in the hiring process...perhaps the training process, but not the hiring process.

This seems like the typical, knee-jerk, short-sighted reaction that we see over and over again in aviation, not to mention the military....

...and that's all if this is even true.

Quite a few places really. Most recently, 3 or 4 ex-Continental Airlines 757/767 drivers have come here. There are also several ex-ATA 757 drivers. A JetBlue A320 pilot is now here. And I run across a lot of furloughed American pilots.

Yup, that's changed.

Thanks for the info. I don't want to seem too pushy asking my sponsor this stuff.
