You have to find the right guy who will stand up for you. If not, you have to go the other route and hope it doesn't get kicked up to SH. That guy is a menace-he has never flown the line in any rj (except for a round-trip every now and then to CHA,) and doesn't understand or care how hot it gets-his butt won't be on the plane.

I know someone who SH tried to browbeat into taking a non-apu plane to an outstation in Texas with no ground air conditioning and the OAT at the ETA was 97 degrees!

SH really should go somewhere else-that guy has completely wreck the CPO and most of flt ops. The way SH sees things, Captains no longer have any authority to refuse to do anything unsafe and the CP's job is to force them to do stupid stuff.

-Just look at how many people have to fight the whole deferred APU fight every summer when the temp is 95 degrees! What a jackass!!

Seriously, are you on drugs, this place has changed for the better. If you don't like it I know of many talented folks on the street that would love your position, regardless of which seat your in.

-There have been many positive changes, sure. Keeping SH around is not one of them. That guy is mean and nasty, I would have a lot more confidence that things were improving if Brad canned SH tomorrow.

Just look at the CPO.... A few years back, it was staffed by real pilots who had 20,000 hours of actual flying at the company and not a bunch of guys who have been sitting in a simulator for the past decade. I know that the average pilot was much better served by guys like FL and BD than by the current bunch of SH toadies.

now i know you are crazy. fl is a nice dude, but come on, he was worthless as a cp. did you ever actually go to him for anything? he was usually knee deep researching corvettes, great to talk to, hope you just didnt need anything. i will take the current bunch anyday over the old group. sure they had hours, but what the heck did that do for us?

i like the fact that these current guys know the airplane, and fly more than i ever saw the others. fl and rc didnt even have medicals for years. bd's uniform is the only thing that looked like it had 20,000 hours.

i have heard sh called a lot of things, never angry. dont know him any more than rgt and seeing him in the lounge, but he doesnt strike me as mean.

hours mean nothing, what you do matters. for the first time in years i feel the cps are there because they are smart and able. not just due to the fact that they have 20,000 hours.

I had the no APU argument twice on my last 4 day. The first time I took it to Dispatch, MX, then finally CP Ken who's comment was "I disagree with you but it's your call", that was the end of it. The second was me telling DX I wasn't taking a plane to the panhandle, DX telling me there were no spares, me telling DX I still wasn't taking it, and DX miraculously finding another plane 5 minutes later.

Yeah, it's SOP to pawn the plane off on crews until they find someone willing to take it so I'm sure it went somewhere after I refused it.

Haven't had any trouble with Ken, he's made his opinions known when I've dealt with him but he seemed to look for a workable solution rather than pushing me to do something I didn't want to do so I can't complain.
