I read in the Denver Post today that United was going to ax Airwis and the BAE-146 in Aspen and get a new carrier/aircraft. I heard some speculation skywest might buy Dash8-400's and get the route. Anybody know anything about this. I would guess the dash8-400 would be the only airplane with acceptable performance for Aspen. What do you think??

It is true that AWAC will operate the BAC jet until April 06' and then that's it. As far as another airline taking over, I haven't heard who and as for the aircraft, I guess the Q-400 is a possibility but Bombardier now has the CRJ-905 which is a hot and high performer and can handle Aspen. So we'll see.

True, but I will take ATLEAST 2 years before MESA gets any of those

Whore Jet will do it!!!!

Horizon was in talks with United last winter don't know what it was about other than some Dash-8 flying. Our management wasn't too excited about it. Who knows though, we just ordered 12 more 400's.

it might have been in the post today but it's old news. The only thing that could replace the BAC is the Q400. Not a suped up RJ. The approach speeds are too high.

I believe UAL has a no compete clause for their express carriers in hubs. Horizon would have to choose between Ual and Frontier

E170

Ebraer is hot to trot on getting the 170/190 approved for Aspen. They already have it approved for a couple of airports like it. That would open up a number of carriers to doing it.

Good point. I should have remebered that from the good ole' mesa days when they dropped F9 like a hot rock to get the United flying. Which Im sure F9 did not mind a bit.

I thought Mesa was dropped like the hot rock back in '02 for their sh*t performance. I don't think they had the UAL flying lined up right away.

As opposed to the near 140 approach speed in icing conditions in the Q400.

....I could be wrong on this speed since I don't fly the Q400, maybe someone who does could correct me?

Cya,

Only one company has these aircraft: CHQ. That's who will do it if the 170 is certified to fly into Aspen.

In a recent employee meeting our CEO stated that before CH11 the Q400 was a done deal, based in DEN...now he says it still will happen.... ONCE we emerge from CH11......which he also thinks will happen by Jan 1st. Interesting talking point.

That's a non issue. As F9 embarked on it's expansion this month, it became clear that Horizon was not included to grow as well. I wouldn't blame them one bit for serving the blue bowling shoe.

The CRJ 900 has a slower approach speed than the 200 because of the leading edge slats. I think they can handle Aspen.

Is the 905 a 900 with bigger engines on it and other mods?

Air Canada Jazz has them and they're actually the -700 airframe but with higher power engines and different winglets. I don't know of any other mods to the aircraft though.

Jazz flies the 705, which, I believe is a 700 with 900 engines. But don't quote me here.

It's not flying into ASE thats the problem, it's flying out after you lose one at V1. Anyone can do it with 6 pax. Doing it fully loaded is the issue.

No way would Horizon ever let go of F9. They are so proud of the operation in DEN. You'll have to kick us out. Which hopefully doesn't happen.

How is a plane certified to fly Aspen?

The Chq "kids" dont know anything about ASE. All they know is they get a 1 year upgrade thanks to AWAC mgt greed. What swept wing jet can do a 30 deg bank at less than 130kts, at max landing wt and also do balked landing on a single engine. Nope not the 170, or the 700.
