Been flying at the Tranny for some time now. In my opinion this is a horrible move. One so bad that its making me wonder what the heck those guys are doing in Orlando. Let's see what else we could have announced. St. Louis, San Anton, San Diego, Portland, Pheonix. You get my point! Oh, and I thought we needed an east/west flow with some business travelers. I guess we will just keep selling those crap fares to florida so we can break even for the rest of my friggin career.

I hear ya! Maybe one of the 5 or 6 destinations that are supposed to be announced next year will include at least one of the places you mentioned.

Great. Yet another craphole I hoped I'd never see again when I came to Airtran.

Come on guy, Senator Hillary Clinton says she is happy we are flying to SWF!

With the news of the announcement of new service to Newburgh, NY, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) stated, "AirTran Airways' expansion of nonstop service from Stewart International Airport will be a great benefit to the Hudson Valley and beyond. This is great news for people who want to do business in the Hudson Valley and it comes right when the leaves are falling and the Hudson Valley is once again showing its colors as a prime tourist attraction. I applaud AirTran Airways' decision to add non-stop, low cost services to these new destinations. The more people we can bring in to the region, the more business we can do and the more tourism we can attract."

Newburgh sucks, but enjoy Orange County Choppers if you're into motorcycles and have a long overnight...

Well HPN seemed to do pretty well since it was announced, maybe they are hoping for more of the same?

Ask your hotel chairman to put you in the lovely Newburgh ramada, trust... you'll love it, from its exquisite workout facitlities, to its nearby 5 star dining and french chateau inspired rooms, it is a hotel to marvel.

Some basic questions
If you upgrade in 4 yrs do you go to 4yr Captain pay or yr 1?
Whats vacation like, if you bid a line and a trip touches your vac is that trip gone, turning your vac days longer?
How long on reserve and is it as bad as reserve at other airlines?
Whats the expected upgrade time?
Would you go to CAL, AirTran, or NetJets, currently a Captain at ExpressJet aka Continental Express, (wouldn't mind living in Atlanta) uncle is there with Delta
Do guys stay a AirTran for a career, or move on, I feel and seems like a stong company, just wanting some insight for someone that flys there.

Thanks for all that reply and for you opinions

You get 4th year capt pay.
Yes.
Not real sure but reserve in the 717 is longer these days. Its reserve, it sucks.
About 3 years give or take a few months.
Not sure, depends what you want.
I'm planing on staying,I'm 34.

I gotta wonder why we are kissing Schumer's and Clinton's large A$$es so much. I was expecting San Juan, San Diego or Phoenix. Some place that may actually make some real money.

For those that are familiar with Atlanta, comparing HPN to SWF is a lot like comparing Buckhead (near the Gov's mansion) to College Park. And by the way, Hillary's house is approx. 15 minutes from HPN.

We used to fly to SWF about 8 years ago. I guess lack of competition is the reason why we choose to go there. We seem to be restarting service to places that we used to fly to before and dropped. If that holds true then BDL should be next. Hey BR715 you sure that those places that you mentioned will make money or are they just places that you would like to personally be flying to. Guys here what it boils down to and there ain't no way to get around it. There are two types of cities out there, those that have Southwest service and those that soon will. It's a matter of getting in somewhere and capturing market share before Southwest does. It's that simple. Someone mentioned that we have completely surrounded New York City. Yes we have, again look at WN service, the only place they fly to near NY, not counting the codeshare with ATA is Islip. I disagree with you BR715, this was actually a smart move by management. I guess time will tell, but I think this one was a good move. Thats why they don't let pilots run airlines. Last airline that did that was TWA with Compton.

A dumb move about a year ago was letting PHL get away. That was just plain dumb. The airport (PHL) offered us all of E concourse and most of D. The offer was that Delta and CO would move to the new International Terminal A-West, Northwest would move to D1 and D3. United would give up gates D1, D3, D5 and D7 which they already have done. USair would give up D2 and D4 which they have already done, so that would leave us with D1-D10 and D12, 14, 15, 16 and all of E. About 24 gates in all, but Airtran didn't want to have split concourses for passengers and they were sure we were getting MDW. We'll we all know how that turned out, WN has over 80 flights per day from PHL. They are using two concourses with no trouble, just like we are in BOS, C11 and they still control MDW.

Highly doubt you'll see that. We don't stay in Ramadas anywhere in the system. The last one was a Ramada Plaza (LGA) which was an anomoly since it was well above the service level of regular Ramadas. That one was actually quite good. It got traded in for a Courtyard by Marriott.

time to go the 73.

I'm quite sure we wouldn't be going there unless we have some sort of revenue guarantee from the city/county/corporation. We had better options (according to an Airtran route manager). So for us to fly there, something special had to happen financially for us.

In the end, if we can make money (with or without a guarantee) then it will have been a good choice. Let's just keep our airline name out of any headlines that contain quotes from hilary. That kind of association we don't need.

Where the hell is this place? Geez... I guess i'll have to get my Rand McNally atlas out so I can see where i'll be spending my overnights this winter.....

We use it as an alternate quite often including today from Europe in the 767-400. It has a long runway and is adequate for anything you would want to do there. As far as hotels etc, I don't know. I'm sure you guys will find something to do.

I'm pretty certain he was being facetious, I can only remember a handful of Ramada's ANYWHERE in the country that are worth a d*mn and can think of several (JFK) Ramada's that downright suck.

I've been in there a lot and I don't remember anything spectacular about the place except that it's fun coming in from the west (you fly right over Orange Co Choppers) and the fall colors are awesome.

Yeah, it sucks in the winter, like everything else in upstate NY.

Who cares.. I'm going fishing today in my new boat.

19 Years till retirement. Age 60.

Peace ..I'm out. Good luck guys with the city speculation. I'm speculating on a 7 pound walleye baby.

Looks like I can visit some relatives in Port Jervis, NY.

I've been to the Ramada you guys speak of. Didnt stay there but we did go for happy hour. It was senior citizens/kareoke night. I was quite a show needless to say. My fo told one of the locals we were from the Army Corp of Engineers and we were in town working on a hydro electric plant for upstate New York. Needless to say we didnt pay for a drink all night.

Been making money. "Hit'em where they Ain't" Seems to be the companies MO and it works. I second the previous posters comments. Pilots should not make decisions about running airlines( at least in respect to route structure). Do your job and go home!

It's close to West Point. You can go over there and watch guys do push ups and get yelled at. (sounds like my DL 727FE course....)

Bye Bye--General Lee

Oh, myyyyyy!

I see da tranny just reported their LF for Sept. Down close to 10 pts from last year to around 61%. Sounds like they are get'n their butts kicked in ATL.

:pimp:
