ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 2004--AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI - News), today announced it will begin new nonstop service between Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. The new nonstop flights will begin July 1, 2004.

I think AirTran is completely misguided in their attempt to add capacity at such a critical juncture. If I were in charge, I'd reduce capacity, and begin working on cost cutting measures to preserve jobs and secure the airline's future.

On yet another positive note for AirTran, two of us who were pushed back to the 27 May class were reinstated to the 29 April class! After talking with Greta, it shounds like the begining of the big wave of training this year.

Also, I wasn't aware there was a pool. (not a big one). I was under the impression that just about 18 people waiting for a class date and that's it. Any info on this?

It may be more like a kiddie pool, or perhaps a hot tub. Greta had referred to a "pool" so that's where I got it. I'll ask around to find out some more info, but it sounds like things are going to start happening very quickly even if there is a pool.

If my information is correct we have four gates right now. But we are have a short term lease to AMR Eagle with two of them, and may recall those as needed. So we could operate up to 40 or so flights before we would need to get more gates in DFW, but that could be a little while off, I'd say 1-2 years by the crystal ball. But who knows I'll read it in USA Today with everyone else.

Thread drift, but I'm in need of a fast answer. Does Airtran Accept United Airlines pilots on the jumpseat? Thanks

If you mean can the AWAC-operated flights accept a UAL pilot on the jumpseat, I doubt it, simply because AirTran doesn't have a way for the gate agents to verify employment for United pilots, which is required for cockpit jumpseat access.

We would if we could, but you're welcome in the cabin anytime.

ACA (and maybe willy) used ACARS from the cockpit to verify a UAL guy. It kept the gate agent where they belonged, out of the jumpseat decision....

Unfortunately I don't think that AirTran has ACARS but I heard they are looking in to it. Any other creative ways to verify crew member info?

Crew member verification, can usually be assured by the tired look of a true airman's face, ring around the collar, loose tie, humble 'get me the ?ell home' expression on thier face, and a simple thanks so much for the ride Captain !!!
