Why did the airplane leave the runway? The GVs had some initial problems with steering after touchdown, but there is no such problem on the GIVs. Pilot error?

Weasil, I just did some research by calling some instructor buddies at Boeing. The aircraft incident involving Qantas was an overrun, but they didn't need to evacuate and the aircraft is flying again. It actually did aquaplane off the end of the runway in Bangkok and ended up in a golf course!!

Was Greg Norman on board? Was he late for his tee-time?
Hehe..maybe that was it. Apparently it was raining and the procedures at QANTAS were said to be at fault - not using full reverse thrust to save on gas. There's probably more to it though, always is.

There was an uproar at the time with news articles saying QANTAS had crashed in Thailand, they released a statement saying they had had a "taxiing incident" hehe.

aquaplane?? Don't ya mean Hydroplane?
Meaning of AQUAPLANE

Definition: [n] a board that is pulled by a speedboat as a person stands on it and skims over the top of the water
[v] ride on an aquaplane
[v] of cars: to rise up onto a thin film of water between the tires and road so that there is no more contact with the road

Meaning of HYDROPLANE

Definition: [n] a speedboat that is equipped with hydrofoils that lift it so that it skims the water at high speeds; "the museum houses a replica of the jet hydroplane that broke the record"
[n] an airplane that can land on or take off from water; "the designer of marine aircraft demonstrated his newest hydroplane"
[v] glide on the water in a hydroplane

Aquaplane is actually the machine that Aquaman uses to get around on when he's chasing Wonder Woman. Wow...just in case anyone cared!
