What is the deal with net jet pilots when going through security while deadheading on an airline? Are you subject to the 3oz 1quart bag rule, or because you are in uniform with a crew ID are you able to bring your liquids like a 121 pilot?

It depends on where we are. If in CMH, or HPN we are not "Real Pilots" and therefore get treated like every other passenger

You are just a passenger.

Sometimes, if they notice the uniform, they'll let you use the crew line . Other times, it just invites additional harassment

Hi!

Normally, ALL pilots in uniform with a crew ID are treated like they are crew. Just like flight attendents, in uniform, with their crew ID, are treated like crew.

Sometimes, the uninformed person, or TSA employee, is confused and treats them differently.

Also, some local TSAs follow different rules than the majority. Why? Who knows.

FlyLow.. Chill out.. if you dont like the title dont read the thread.. Did a search for "NetJets and TSA" and guess what.. This is the only thread that showed up!

So TO THE NETJET PILOTS out there do you pack several 3 oz bottles of the stuff you need for your tour, or do you buy it on the road?

Thanks

While most airport TSA folks see the badge and uniform and consider us airline employees, there are some (CMH and HPN for example) that don't consider NetJets an 'airline' so we are just like every other ticketed passenger. I keep 3 oz bottles of stuff I need on the road (in the quart bag just in case) which isn't much... I use an electric razor (no shaving cream) and the hotels we stay at always have shampoo... so it's pretty much toothpaste, deodorant (don't want to argue with a TSA idiot about whether or not it's a liquid or solid), etc. I haven't had a problem having enough stuff for a week. I also now a couple guys who have more then the 3 oz, don't use the quart bag and haven't had a problem, and if they do they just check the bag.

I agree, it all depends on where you are. It seems like the Southern California airports are very strict, especially BUR and ONT. I fly out of SMF all the time, and they are super relaxed. I have gone through the crew line in shorts and flip flops and they gave me no trouble at all.

Target has a great section of travel-size toiletries, you can find pretty much anything you need in there that is all under 3 oz.

I fly out of TUS and LAX all the time and both are very easy going. I have to say that I do check my bag all the time..(i know dangerous) but, have had no problems yet and I do not want to deal with any TSA if I dont have to. Besides, if my bag does not get there, I can still fly the day (being in uniform and carring my required stuff with me)..i got a free RT on SWA when it showed up late on the next flight.

I pack anything I want, and just check my bag. I don't have to drag it around the terminal for my flights, and I don't have to deal with the 3oz crap, nor do I have to wrestle for overhead space. It's kinda nice.

In the past year, I've had my bag lost all of once (just last tour, in fact, by Delta). They delivered it to my front door the next day.
